USA year 2020 genres Drama A Christian documentary diving into the sex trafficking industry in the US exposing the darkness that fuels demand, highlighting survivors' transformations through Christ, and showing Christ as the hope for all involved. Blind Eyes Opened Free downloadable. This is another edit, Thursday the 22nd "I need to qualify this" edition. I test on a lush world right in front of a busy, actively fueled base with a busy cave right next to me and my ship in view, so I can see the moving bits, on the side of a hill with a dip so that the LOD does not kick in for anything I'm looking at, which is covered in moving grass and buzzing insects from gather fauna and a bunch of floating glowy motes and ships flying overhead, in a world that gets superheated rain to make absolutely sure the changes I make have an effect on the performance of the game. You couldn't pick a more ideal spot, if I look up, the frames SKYROCKET, so I think I have maximum GPU performance eating things running in my view. I haven't even left the planet or played the game to any extent in the last week just to continue to troubleshoot this for all of us. It'll be worth it, because my desire to play this game and become so immersed I forget where I am is strong. big news: I'm currently testing taking the headset out of direct mode, and running it in extended desktop mode. wouldn't you believe it, it helps (kinda. It looks INCREDIBLE. Some of the aberration is fixed, too. However, 11-14ms is common. The main difference is that now the graphics settings have basically zero impact on frame timing, you can crank them. In direct mode, the graphics settings do improve the frame timing more, for whatever reason. It might have something to do with the implementation of the desktop mirror view of the game. Something screwy is going on with the compositor's setup and cpu load, especially on intel. PLUS, in extended mode, there is a proper OCCLUSION MASK in the hmd view. This is huge. This allows you to minimize the game window again, oddly without cpu load, but this was last night's patch. I only had a few hours last night. I need to record this process with the understanding that it kills performance to do so. Maybe I'll use a camera or hdmi capture to another pc to show you all what's up, I've got one handy. This bit of info is now invalid with the latest patches. please also see this excellent thread by /u/zipzapbloop. which illustrates some of the issues we're seeing with cpu and goes into exquisite detail. steamvr has a debug menu that allows you to toggle things like async on and off without the mirror view needing to be open, fyi. Final edit, Tuesday's coming edition, did you bring your coat? I am a banana, interloper. Many things have changed and you can get away with a lot more now since the fixes are fast and furious. Here's a concise step by step guide to improve performance in no Man's Sky VR (and some things will work even without vr. Not everything will work for everyone. Some fixes may make your particular system worse + Intel seems to have more trouble than Ryzen + SteamVR native devices. I'm not responsible if your computer starts repeating 16's at you. here's what is possible: Does elements look sharper to you? I'm running global HMD in 130% SS and game at 100. Motion smoothing off. DRIVERS. Update your Nvidia and Intel and AMD Chipset & GPU drivers. Get the latest vulkan runtime: Install NMS, hopefully on steam. Run it in desktop mode, once, and get it smooth there. You can probably max almost everything. You may need to do a thing or two in desktop mode once and a while so it's good to have set up. Opt into the experimental beta for NMS. The fixes there are huge. To play in Experimental, right-click on No Mans Sky from the Steam library page and select “Properties”. Among the available tabs will be the “BETAS” tab. Enter “3xperimental” in the textbox and press “CHECK CODE”, and it'll let you in, then select it from the dropdown menu. in yourdrive: steamappscommonNo Man's SkyBinaries find. Right click it, and click properties. Click "compatibility" and click "change high dpi settings" click "override high dpi scaling settings" and set it to "application controlled. This removes a layer that windows puts on 3d apps now, and since the game is not in a pure "direct mode" yet) this removes that latency and helps frame-rate. This is similar to how Elite Dangerous was on the dk2 in the early days of windows 10. This also may improve fidelity of menu items depending on your monitor. Turn off windows "game mode" by searching for the settings in the start menu. This is normally a good thing for most games but it throttles background processes it thinks are not the main game thread. No man's sky has custom threading and this lassos it, which is bad. Install SteamVR beta and Steam Client beta. No exceptions. There's a specific fix for no man's sky in the latest update. I recommend only having one other monitor active. If you have a high hz monitor, use that one. in nvidia and amd gpu control panels, force off Vsync, always, turn on "prefer maximum performance. Set "vr precomputed frames" to application controlled instead of 1, which is for some crazy reason still the default for nvidia. Newer games override this setting, but games built "the old way" like no man's sky do not) If you're on Nvidia turn off threaded optimization "auto. Set it to off instead. They're doing this directly and there might be some kinda conflict. If it makes it worse, force it on. These settings reduce shimmer for me: For both Nvidia and AMD, I recommend MSI Afterburner or just AMD drivers and setting an aggressive fan curve and power limit. You don't want to be throttling down if the card warms up. Your CPU should also be staying cool. You need to be hitting turbo cores. You can now use as of the latest patch, motion smoothing" in steamVR with no problems most of the time, so leave it on unless things seem worse. (You're on the steamvr beta like I said in step 7, right. If you keep going above 11ms in 90hz, turn it off. Set your application specific steamvr resolution for no man's sky to 100% Turn off Advanced Supersample filtering in steamVR dev options. Do not turn on gpu profiling, it causes slowdowns. On the video tab, use manual resolution. Change your global steamvr application resolution to something like 100% for now. IF YOU CHANGE THIS, you need to restart No Man's Sky to see the changes. It DOES NOT work on the fly like other games. I get away with 130-150% with a 1080ti and Ryzen 2700x. Go to C: Program Files (x86) SteamsteamappscommonNo Man's SkyBinariesSETTINGS and edit and and set numhighthreads 4 and numlowthreads 2. Big improvement on the cpu side. Try 2 and 1 if you have a quad core. If you're on intel and things still suck, try 0h 0l. 0/0 may prevent you from leaving the starfield at the beginning of the game. If that happens, just set it back. Okay, go ahead and and load the game now. This imgur link has my in game settings, I recommend using these. Don't use TXAA unless you find it "clearer" It's a blurry mess for me, use FXAA. I can also get away with hbao standard, but maybe you can't. These are something you can fiddle with, everything but planetary will work without restarting the game. I also recommend turning off vignette and scanline effects in some of the other setting menus. The game now must remain in focus. It cannot have anything on top of it or not be the active window, or you'll lag. OVR Toolkit/OvrDrop might give you issues. Optional: you should be good with the above, but you can try turning off HPET (high performance event timer) in your UEFI(bios) which can help cpu bound applications like this one. Everything below this line is the old thread with various things I've tried. This gigantic thread is me just dumping my brain on the page with various things I know work based on years of knowledge on how VR can be tweaked, generally. Feel free to read it, but my mind tends to redline the troubleshooting but this thread spins the tires, if you know what I mean. happy friday! 8-16-2019: Things have changed since the last beta patch. I'm testing on a stormy planet with lots going on right next to activity on the map to make sure settings are valid. I'll provide more screenshots. The app now needs to stay in focus for the best performance. It needs to be on top. Nothing else can be on top. Disable overlays if you're using them, like ovrdrop or ovr toolkit. 0. 5) DISABLE GAME MODE IN WINDOWS 10. You can find it in the start menu by typing "game mode. Mine was already off and I didn't realize you guys might need to know that. This is universally good for vr since it uses a lot of background processes, I've found. as always, if you find it worse turn it back on. you should still do the cpu changes in the config files (try 4high and 2low if the game doesn't load fast) still do the "high dpi" override on still do the nvidia control panel overrides for, but I'm adding new two: turn off threaded optimization "auto. These settings reduce shimmer for me: Set the in game framerate on the video tab to UNDER your desktop HZ but over your hmd if you have gsync/144 hz adaptive sync, or max it. I just set mine to 160 now. Consider playing with your adaptive sync/gsync settings. I recommend turning on fxaa now, either in control panel or in the game. Both work. Leave TXAA off unless you find it sharper/clearer. It's blurry for most people. Anistropy 16x all day every day. Yay. HBAO standard looks great too, no real noticeable difference in perf for me making sure no man's sky is set to 100% application render scale in steam vr, but you can now set the global video setting to auto or like 120% or more. Motion smoothing still off. You can leave interleaved re-projection on if you want, it doesn't kick in as much now, or just force it off as before if you're on amd. here's my in game settings now, storm rolling in, getting 9. 6ms frame timing. Use Fullscreen 's what it looks like now- my frame timing graph. I put the screenshot on a delay so that the game would be in focus for a bit, everything to the right of the red line is valid: and here's with some MAJOR edits to the resolution to match the vive. Does elements look sharper to you? I'm running global HMD in 130% SS and game at 100. detailed advanced frame time graph. It's getting better! Oh wow, check it out: look at the resolution I'm using in the config file. I'm kinda blind to the visual changes now, I've been fiddling for 3 hours. You tell me which looks better, but the second one has a better frame graph. Experimentation:Something is pretty screwy with the way the game is rendering both eyes in the HMD. *NumGraphicsThreadsBeta value 2 completely knackers the hmd btw. Flickery mess, crash. I still don't know what it does. *I'm also going to try setting the "desktop resolution" in to the total resolution of the vive later on, 2160×1200, or instead a single eye, 1080×1200. This requires borderless windowed which may reduce performance over fullscreen even though it's not "fullscreen. EDIT: this seems to work at 2160x1200. At least, the game doesn't overwrite the file on me. Same 9. 6ms frame timing in "windowed" The menus and other text overlay elements seem much sharper but maybe I'm fooling myself. Gonna try 1080x1200. Of note it seems that using fullscreen gives the game higher windows application Here's some proof these settings work, 1080ti, ryzen 2700x, x470 chipset, 32gb 3200mhz ddr4 cas 16, windows 10 1903 insider "fixes/drivers" only. This is not a unity or unreal app and uses a -native- implementations of OpenVR/OVRuntime. (and on Vulkan to boot! It's amazing. The perspective is that hello games has their own game engine, so they don't get the plug and play drag and drop implementation and bug fixes that come with the developer supported plugins for those game engines. Serious Sam Fusion and Talos Principal are the only other games I know of that work in Vulkan/DX12 and simultaneously steamVR with a native implementation. This is an accomplishment. The performance is due twofold to differences in 3d on earlier builds of windows 10 differing in the way it handles 3d now, your desktop resolution, your desktop monitor's HZ, and a few other things. Remember this game is fast enough to run on intel embedded graphics now. It just needs tweaking. For one, it appears the Anti-aliasing is done via forward rendering, and instead-computed on the desktop view at the desktop framerate BEFORE pushed to the hmd, along with anistropy which I suspect is why it's blurry, the "pixels" are being effectively smeared out. It's not appearing to be applied directly to the vr compositor view, or there some in between step. Also, please opt into the experimental beta branch via the password, and consider installing the update to Vulkan via the runtime, just to make sure you're on the current version! update your drivers, including chipset! First, all of this is being done from their experimental fixes branch: To play in Experimental, right-click on No Mans Sky from the Steam library page and select “Properties”. Do the following and the game will look better than ever, and you'll get 90hz and stay out of re-projection 99% of the time. The steps are similar to the early days of FO:4. go to C: Program Files (x86) SteamsteamappscommonNo Man's SkyBinariesSETTINGS and edit and and set numhighthreads 8 and numlowthreads 0. Try 4 and 2 if the game doesn't load. in nvidia and amd gpu control panels, force off Vsync, turn on "prefer maximum performance. Set "vr precomputed frames" to application controlled instead of 1, which is the default for nvidia. For newer games this setting does nothing, but I can confirm this game DOES listen to this (like it does/did in fo4) and it breaks re-projection. In windows, I recommend only having one monitor active especially if they have different refresh rates and/or resolutions, make sure it's set to it's maximum refresh rate. I also recommend maxing your fans so your video card doesn't go into a lower boosted state and flap between them. yourdrive steamappscommonNo Man's SkyBinaries find. This removes a layer that windows puts on 3d apps now, and since the game is not in a pure "direct mode" yet) this removes that latency and helps framerate. adjust the in-game framerate limit to be 5-10fps above your HMD's, to allow re-projection to do it's thing. Edit: you can try setting this EVEN HIGHER if you think your system can handle it. This gives less overhead for re-projection, and decreases input delay, but YMMV. It's part of the reason that most people don't see 100% gpu usage, truth be told the game is gimping itself to your display's framerate cap, not the hmd for any post processing done on the desktop view before being sent to you. Go into the game's Video settings: Switch the game to fullscreen (it won't do anything visually but might as well) and consider reducing or increasing the resolution here. Edit for clarity: This does not change the resolution in the hmd, but it might be fiddling with AA and post processing's resolution, since it seems to be calculated like that, based on what I'm seeing. If you recall, FO4:VR had the same exact issue, everything was blurry as hell on launch day. EDIT: GET THIS, The lowered desktop resolution also seems to effect some things in the UI as they calculate off the lower resolution at the desktop resolution! Not the headset rendered resolution, which is really not good and super weird! It makes the scanner UI flicker and get bizarre and jumpy, which is a big problem! This is confirming my theory. I now think setting the desktop resolution higher is even more important. Get it just over your HMD resolution and leave it there. There's issues if your monitor refresh rate and resolution is below your HMD refresh rate, just like fo4vr. It does seem like the resolution is per-eye, even though it should be full-field. The vives per-eye resolution is 1080x1200, but you can't select that resolution so just set it close to that (or higher if you want SS on top of your SS for at least UI elements in game in steamvr. 1080p is fine for me. You could try making a custom virtual super resolution that matches your HMD if you're feeling industrious. under graphics, turn off all antialiasing and potentially anisitropy since it appears it's calculated from the -desktop resolution- unless you're going beyond it for double SS, and even then, it looks better off imho. You can leave everything else on ultra at this point except maybe shadows I've found, with most GPUS, even like a rx480 8gb because Vulkan is awesome. ninja EDIT: I've determined the below is more important than I thought for performance. No longer optional! Since this is a native openVR app, if you click on the game window while it's running and press "shift+a" it SHOULD disable interleaved re-projection, which seems to be on as a fallback if you disabled motion smoothing. This helps cpu usage a TON. You can also do this with the native steamVR vr view window for most apps. finally, turn off advanced super-sampling filtering in steamvr if you're not already out of re-projection by this point. Set manual resolution settings in steamvr, and start reducing from 200% SS until the latency graph on the bottom left is under 11ms or whatever it is for your HMD and you get out of re-projection. That should solve it! and the game will run like it should and look great too. Now that I'm home, I realized something: You have to restart the game entirely for this change to work! This could be due to the older OpenVR SDK. TURN OFF AA and do it on your gpu's control panel and turn off scanlines and post processing to get rid of the shimmer. That seems to be done on the DESKTOP resolution and not the game. DOUBLE CHECK THAT THE APPLICATION RESOLUTION OF NMS is where you want it. You may have overrode it from the global setting. optional: try turning off ASW if you're on a rift (can you even do that anymore. in your steamvr. vrsettings file in your root steam install directory also try adding "allowAsyncReprojection" false, comma is important unless it's the last entry) as one of the options. They pulled it. I use the following. steamvr. allowDisplayLockedMode" false, allowSupersampleFiltering" false, basestationPowerManagement" 1, enableHomeApp" false, installID. 18309934490580095554. lastVersionNotice. 1. 7. 4. lastVersionNoticeDate. 1565657139. mirrorViewEye" 3, motionSmoothing" false, supersampleManualOverride" true, allowAsyncReprojection" false, supersampleScale" 1. 2} enjoy! if you made it this far, awesome. I haven't even dug into the game's config files, I'm reading that you can improve threaded optimization in the same way so that the cpu load is good too. edit: here's how to do that - go to C: Program Files (x86) SteamsteamappscommonNo Man's SkyBinariesSETTINGS and edit and and set numhighthreads 8 and numlowthreads 0. Big improvement. also, a new setting has appeared called "

Blind eyes opened free download game. Blind Eyes Opened free download android. Blind eyes opened free download movie. [p. Previous] p. Next] n Part 2 With the Scream of metal the whole of Jupiters seat comes free of the floor. The bolts just sheer off and it pitches forward agonisingly slowly in the dampening field. Jupiters eyes go wide in panic as he tumbles but hes strapped in securely. Then the power to the dampers cuts and suddenly the full force returns. He vanishes with a thunderous crash. In front of him, Gefs seat is gone as well. In front of where they sat, the bulkhead is a buckled with a mass of twisted metal driven deep into it. Charlie hangs forward in her seat harness, pale and shaking. She didnt get her leg back in place in time, looking down she can see the pale white of jagged bones sticking out below her uniforms kneepad. “Shit”. She tries to move then bites back a scream of pain. Baker moves to help her, but she shakes her head. “Not got time for wounded, grab my pack and get moving. Get that Queen for me” The others salvage what they can as the torpedo displays blinking red lights. A computer voice calmly states “Exterior fires extinguished. You are green for go. ” The Lights go green. The torpedo splits open at the front, ripping apart hive walls. They charge forward, through the burnt rubble and drop through a hole in the floor into a tunnel below. Back in her seat, Charlie arms her suicide charge. “well this sucked”. She thumbs the detonate button and vanishes in a sudden ball of white hot flame. All around them are confused worker bugs running about, carrying rubble or larvae away from the impact or working to fight the fires. One has a cylindrical fire extinguisher and is spraying foam at the worst fires. Another has randomly run up the wall and is wailing in panic. Even through the respirators they can smell the acrid scent of burnt insectoid bodies. Then a sweeter scent washes over it all. Delta coughs. Hes lost his facemask in the landing “Smell that? Like rotting fruit? some sort of Pheromone signal? ” All the workers suddenly stand perfectly still. “Oh crap. ” As one the hive workers all turn and rush the Humans. Instinctively they form a Firing line, covering each other and laying down an even spread of high velocity plasma death. Short controlled bursts, aiming for centre mass, blowing the insectoid workers torsos apart. Foxy leads to the left as they head to cover, the massive barrel of the semi portable flaring as she cuts apart the masses of workers but more keep pouring in. Over the crack of the plasma fire she shouts back “We can't shoot the whole hive! ” Able agrees “We cant stay still either! Have to break through! ” Baker and Indigo switch to the flamers, laying down a wall of fire that pushes the workers back as they try and climb over their burning comrades. “Lemur! Close those tunnels to the upper worker galleries! ”. “On it! ” He dials down the grenade launcher, setting the grenades to a few seconds delay. Then he takes aim at the tunnel entrance and punches three grenades into the centre of the arch. They detonate together, cracking the tough hive concrete resin and collapses the tunnel arch. They finish off the few workers still standing and push on. Foxy leads the way down a wide sloping ramp, the others instinctively forming in pairs and alternating moving forward with covering each other. Ahead the hive tunnel opens into a balcony looking out over a vast gallery of pallid grey green fungus. The air is chokingly warm and humid, thick with pheromones and spores and the scent of rot. Huge bugs slowly graze the fungus, abdomens swollen with stomachs of digestive acid. Smaller workers scurry back and forth as a rain of debris falls from a vent in the ceiling, adding to a growing pile of the bodies of dead workers. “Fungus farm and cemetery? I guess they recycle” “decay and fermentation – I think high levels of methane. Can we use that? ” Lemur readies the grenade launcher then pauses, lifts his mask to sniff the air. He shakes his head “It probably wont explode, the humidity is too high. ” He gags. “Stinks though. Weird smell of pine as well. ” “Hey, anyone noticed how…” “…We keep finishing…” “…Each others sentences? ” “Maybe we got synced up on download? ” Kilo shouts a warning as she shoulders her rifle and fires a quick burst “Contact ahead! ”. She takes cover against the wall. Further along the balcony three of the larger warriors stop their advance and level their spears. Tucked tight under an arm and close to the body theyre like bizarre knights with lances, then they fire as one. The chemical propellant detonates with a deafening report and gout of flame, sweeping the balcony with a hail of shot. Echo is caught in the blast and knocked off her feet, several jagged barbed spikes in her armour. She tries to sit up and swear but nothing but a wet bubbling sound escapes the torn ruin of her throat. She puts a hand up to feel it, finds it wet with blood. Snarling through bloody foam she pressed one hand to the wound and aims her rifle with the other. Able feels a punch in his chest plate, looks down to see a six inch barbed spike of metal sticking from his armour. The point is just barely through but he can feel the poison burning in his blood. With a gloved hand he tugs the spike free and jams a armour patch over the hole. The Patch fuses with the armour plate, expanding down to stick the fragments of armour together, down into the wound clotting blood and numbing pain. Indigo ignores the spike in its shoulder and hefts the flamer, charging forward as the warriors reload. With practised ease the Warriors raise the spears, one arm pulling the bolt back and opening the chamber, the other hand drawing a round from a belt pouch, part a brass tube of chemical explosive, part a twisted mass of metallic needles. It spits on the needles tip and pushes the round into the spear rifle, closing the breach and locking it closed. Before they can level and fire again, Foxy opens up with the semi portable and the others join in with their rifle, catching one warrior and making the other two try and get to cover. Too late, as Indigo throws itself forward and rolls, raising the flamer. All three Warriors are engulfed in flame. Baker and Kilo move forward, covering Indigo as it gets to its feet. Delta checks on Echo, cursing when he sees her blank eyes then moves on to help Able get shakily to his feet. “Echos gone. Able is moving but hurt” “Ill be ok for long enough, I didnt get a full dose of the poison” Foxy spits over the edge into the fungus “Eight left. Lets make this count” Baker nods and triggers Echos suicide charge. “Not letting them grow fungus on you” They move on, as fast as they dare. Out of the fungus gardens and down, curling ramps lit with glowing bug lights on the walls, tubes that pulse with pumped fluids and the ever present scent of sweetness and rot. “Just wondering, briefing said these guys recently evolved biological energy weapons? ” “Yeah, makes you wonder, what evolutionary pressure did that? ” “Something must have recently changed” “When they attacked the colonists? ” “could be… just doesnt add up right” The tunnel straightens and they can see large alcoves in the side wall, each a pit down into darkness. In front of them a worker holds a struggling larvae in its arms. As they watch it throws it down into one of the pits. As it turns to face them Hombre shoots it in the head and it drops in a mass of spindly limbs. “The Larvae pits” “Well, thats good. The closer we are to the queen the more young hivers we should see” Delta nods to the way ahead “And more soldiers! ” Two of the insectoid warriors just walked into the chamber. One levels its spear and fires a hurried shot, a single solid slug that passes over their heads and takes a chunk out of the wall. The other grasps its spear and rushes forward, but is cut down in a concentrated hail of plasma fire, along with its companion who never finished reloading. Hombre looks down into the pit, walls are a solid layer of writhing larvae. A central shaft curves off down into darkness. There must be an egg chamber down there, newly hatched larvae grip the wall and crawl up, by the time they reach this level they are nymphs with darkening shells, ready to be lifted up, sponged down and put to work. Hombre leans over and looks down, into the hellish pit, at the hundreds of blind and hungry faces looking up. "We could burn one tube out and drop down? If the eggs are down there then there must be a way to the queen" Too slow. Workers carry the eggs here for her, must be miles of egg tunnel. The air is suddenly ripped by a hissing shriek and hivers flood in from both ends of the tunnel, a mass of workers carrying all manner of bladed weapons and hand tools leading the charge while the bigger warriors tower over them, firing over their heads. The gun spears spit hails of poison flechettes and explosive bombs as the humans drop prone, returning fire. One bomb from the initial volley catches Indigo directly on the leg and blows it clean off at the knee. The blast picks up Hombre and tosses him into the larvae shaft. The larvae blindly grasp and snap, desperate for a taste of flesh. He grabs a grenade and thumbs it live, just as a larvae bites his hand, frantically tearing and trying to swallow. "Choke on it. He roars as the grenade detonates, blasting pulpy flesh apart and sending him and a shower of larvae falling down into blackness. Indigo wails and thrashes, shock and trauma blessedly shutting down higher functions as it passes out from blood loss. Lemur fires a grenade at the oncoming hoard, only to watch in amazement as a worker leaps up to grab it out of the air, curling around it to take the blast. With a dull thump its blown apart, but the rest of the horde are intact and still moving. He curses and shouts “Switching! ” “Got you covered! ” Foxy lays a barrage of fire ahead as Kilo covers Lemur as he grabs a fallen weapon in each hand. The workers are slipping and stumbling over their own dead and dying but taking the brunt of the fire. At the same time Baker and Kilo both drop to one knee, shoulder their rifles and start sniping, sending accurate single shots over the melee and picking off the warriors with well-aimed headshots. The Flamers light up the mounting barricade of dead worker bodies and eventually the workers stop pressing forward. Lemur backs off and blows a hole in the burning pile, but no more hivers attack. “Looks like this wave is out, keep moving as theyll regroup fast” They thumb Indigos charge and move on rapidly, leaving the room a burning pyre. The ramp pitches steeply down, spiralling deeper into the ground. They descend level after level until they notice the air is clammy and cold. Their breathe is visible in the chill. “What the hell? ” “not natural cooling or hive thermoregulation. This is refrigerated” Able points through a vision slot in one wall thats glowing with blue white light “theres your coolants” In the vast room beyond were fields of huge bloated larvae, barely moving, their leathery sack like bodies full of some icy slush like fluid they slosh back and forth. “Cryogenic stores. Living gas tanks. Theres a lot going on here we werent told about” They carry on down, until the spiralling ramp brings them out on a wide tunnel of ornately worked resin concrete big enough to drive three trucks abreast down. “OK, this is the Queens Road. It should take us directly to her chambers” They break into a run, double time as the end of the mission is almost in sight. The Tunnel ends in a massive chitinous iris door. “How do we open it? ” Lemur lifts the grenade rifle. “I could knock? ” As if in answer the door scythes open, revealing a chamber full of warriors. Bigger and taller than any theyve faced before, they have metal devices on their heads and arms, specialised bugs clinging to their chests projecting the pale blue glow of personal shields. Several have grotesquely bulging heads, jaw and eyes distorted to accommodate the metallic cylinder of a weapon “Holy…” Theres a detonation like a sonic boom and Baker explodes, hit in the chest by a projectile travelling at hypersonic speeds. The bug that fired falls, having lost half its head, its carapace fractured by the force of the blast it fired. “.! ” Foxy ramps the semi portable up to maximal, each shot a small sun that bursts on impact, tearing into the shields and punching through the warriors behind. The Warriors return fire with rifles and pistols of their own, many obviously scavenged from the colonists. The overload has the semi portables barrel glowing a cherry red, scorching the flesh on her arms. Deltas head goes back with a whip crack as something hits him hard enough to crack his helmet and he goes down. Lemur empties the flame unit into the air, raining fire down onto them. The shields can stop fast moving projectiles but the burning fuel is slower and in places drips through. Kilo and Able head toward the wall, firing wildly. Foxy keeps firing, each shot punching through a shield and the warrior wearing it but shes hit over and over again, bullets cracking armour, flechettes drawing blood. The Warriors keep advancing, shields locked. A lucky shot cracks the gun barrel and the whole thing overloads, the Warriors rushing into the blast to stab and bite. She draws the pistol and punches it though the shield of the nearest, firing the explosive rounds into its face. “Im in trouble! ” LEROY grabs up Deltas grenade. “Cover me! ” as he arms his. With a live grenade in each hand and the remains of the ammo in the pack on his back he rushes into the melee… The explosion rocks the hive. [Previous] p. Next] n.
Hi everyone, these tips are some of my favourite ways to shoplift from stores. I haven't seen a shoplifting masterpost on this subreddit (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'd thought to share. Credit to @ yeahilift Also y'all have probably heard this a million times but only lift from big companies, and never lift from small businesses who depend on sales as it can drastically affect their livelihood! Blind Spot A blind-spot is a section of the store where you are barely visible by any cameras or employees and can thus feel free to both collect and dump stuff, without fear of being seen. Make sure your blind-spot is not under surveillance. Never do anything where someone else may see you, even a customer. You can make your own spot inside a shopping cart with large packages to conceal your movements or use display units to your advantage. Also, a friends body can be used to block viewing. You will always want to act quickly once you have entered your blind spot and never grab an item and walk straight to your area. Shop your way into it like you need something from there and then shop your way out like you did nothing wrong. Never hang around your blind-spot for too long and dont keep using the same spot, especially if you are leaving opened packages. Most of all, be careful to never lead Loss Prevention to your blind-spot and remember that Loss Prevention will know their store better than you and will already know where all the blind spots are. Dressing Room After selecting clothes you head to the Dressing Room to try them on. While your in there you decide that instead of purchasing them, youre going to shoplift them. This can be easily done in the privacy of this little room as long as you know what you're doing. The inside of dressing rooms will normally not be monitored by Loss Prevention. If they do they have to have a sign saying that “Dressing Rooms are monitored” for it to be legal. Also, most dressing rooms are not 100% private. A lot of times the door or curtain stops about 2 feet from the floor giving Loss Prevention an opportunity to observe some of your actions, especially with a small shoe mirror. Regardless of all of this, youre going for it and there are several ways you could go about concealing your items. First thing you do is to remove any security tags on the clothes. Removing tags is discussed in the ‘Tools of the Trade. The most common way to obtain your new clothes would be to place them into another stores bag that you walked in with. Second would be to wear the new cloths under what you are already wearing or fold them up and tape them to your body. You could also just exchange the old clothes you are wearing for new ones (not recommend. Remember to never leave any tags or hangers behind unless there are already hangers or clothes in the room, which you can use to hide. Otherwise, you will be alerting the staff that you took something. Some store count the clothing going in and out of the dressing room. To get around this, hide pieces of clothing under more visible ones, or conceal clothes in a tote bag at a blind spot and bring it with you to the stall. Body Stuffing This is a common technique used by women. With a dress on they will take an item and hold it between their thighs and walk out. Also you could have a inflatable ball so that you appear pregnant. Gather clothes and go into a dressing room, deflate the ball and place the cloths in its place, so that you still appear pregnant. Men could taking some small expensive items and place them in the small of your back. Wearing a tight shirt tucked in with a baggier outer shirt would help conceal any item. Clothes can be wrapped and taped around your torso and your legs while wearing bagger clothes. Remember you have to be able to walk out the door without arousing suspicion. The Drink Cup Concealment A large drink is purchased and then brought into the store. You then proceed to drop small heavy items like jewelry into the drink cup. On leaving the store the drink cup is unlikely to be searched. You must be wary of drinking too much or the items will be revealed in the bottom of the cup. Sleight of hand This is a technique used to manipulate items by secretly palming them and hiding the items out of sight while diverting the sales associates attention somewhere else. This is easily done with jewelry and an inattentive sales person. While looking at multiple jewelry you have the sales person distracted while an expensive item is slipped into a pocket. Though it is easy to distract the human eye, the camera is a little harder to fool, so you must keep this in mind when using this tactic. The Drop Bag This Simple technique is use when a person brings a bag from another store in with them. As they shop around the store they will pick up two of the same items and inconspicuously drop one of the items into the open bag while looking the other item over. They then put the one item back as if they didnt want it and make another selection. The Self Bagger With this technique you enter the store with the stores bags already on you. The bags should be as new as they can be and you should have already acquired them in advance. Never walk into a store and pick up a bag out of the recycle bin or an empty cashiers stand. Begin by making your selections and then proceed to a predetermined blind spot in the store. You will then bag up the merchandise and place it the cart. With the merchandise bagged proceed to leave the store. This works really well if there are multiple cashers stands through out the store. Receipt Matching This technique requires that you already have a receipt for the merchandise that you are going to return. You could search either retailers parking lot or trashcans looking for receipts that have a high dollar item on it paid for in cash. The problems with this is that stores try to prevent this type of return by installing outdoor cameras to watch the parking lots. Some will also have a greater who will give you a sticker when you enter with a return. This prevents people from acquiring items from within the store to return. Newer stores now have their return desk entrance separate from the store entrance to prevent you from doing this. If these are not issues then enter the store and compare the items on the receipt to the merchandise in the store. Once the you find a match take the merchandise to the return area and receive money for it. Magic Bags A person will bring a foil lined bag that they made out of approximately 10 layers of heavy aluminum-foil, into a store. This is to help shield the security tags that are on merchandise from the alarm towers at the exit of a store. Choose small expensive items and place them into your Magic bag. The tags must be completely shielded for this to work. Seal the bag so that it cannot be penetrated by radio frequency. If there is a “leak” (i. e. If the signal from the tower reach the tag through a opening in the bag) the towers will be activated. You can test it by inserting a cell-phone in to the bag and calling the number. If the phone rings that means the layers are too thin, or there is a hole that is allowing the radio waves in. This bag will only work with the RF (radio frequency) tags. In order for it to work with AM (acousto-magnetic) tags you will need to increase the amount of foil to 30 layers of heavy aluminum-foil. A side note - you may use copper or tin plates instead of the foil to make a magic bag. The only issue with this would be weight. Read ‘Anti-Shoplifting Devices to better understand the difference between the RF and AM security tags. Magic Box Like the Magic Bag a shoebox is lined with the appropriate layers of aluminum-foil and inserted into a bag of a local store. The box is placed so the opening is facing up, thus when you are in a concealed area you can discreetly drop items into your box. When you are ready to leave, just close the box with the lid (which was never removed from the bag) and walk out. Magic Pocket You can line a hidden pocket inside of a jacket with aluminum-foil to create a Magic Bag. You would typically cut the bottom out of an inside pocket and then insert a envelope that has been wrapped in foil. You would then place small items into it and seal the flap so that the radio waves wont penetrate the envelope. Bag Switching Bag switching is attempted by two people who come into the store separately The first person will gather a large amount of merchandise that they want to remove from the store and place it into a large bag. They will then inconspicuously switch their bag with the second person, who has a matching bag that is already filled with items that came from another store. If Loss Prevention is watching the first person and miss the bag switch they will more then likely stop them while the second person walks out with the goods. Box Stuffing This Technique requires the use of a low priced box. You open the box and remove the contents of the box. You then proceed to refill the box with more expensive items. You then reseal the box and take it to a checkout aisle, where you pay the purchase price for the item. You then leave the store with the more expensive items concealed. If the items in the box have security tags on them they will still be active and will set off the alarm towers as you exit. Most of the time the staff will flag you through thinking a mistake was made at the register and the box was not deactivated. You can also leave the low priced item in the box if you have room for your concealed merchandise, make your purchase, then just bring the box with the item back in for a full refund. Shoe Switching This is a typical switch a roué technique where you leave a store with new shoes while leaving your old pair in the store. Some shoe stores will still have both shoes in the box with no security tags on them. These shoes will be the are the easiest to remove. Just swap out when no one is looking. If one of the shoes has a security tag in it then you will need to either use a tag detacher to remove it or if the tag is in a shoe lace hole you can cut the leather a little and pull the tag through the ripped hole. In a store where the employee has to retrieve shoes for you, find the shoes you wish to liberate. Once the salesperson retrieves the right pair, have them go back to the stock room to get another style so you can compare the two. Once the employee is sent back to the stockroom, you simply walk out with the new pair of shoes leaving the old pair in the box. It is always good to have at least two boxes of shoes left on the floor with the old pair in a bottom covered box and an other new pair exposed on top of it. This should allow you time to move away from the store as the employee seeing that you left the new shoes and boxes, will assume that you changed your mind and left. High / Low Shopping Cart With this technique two people will fill up a couple of shopping carts. One will have a few expensive items in it while the other cart will be full of miscellaneous items. You then proceed to the cashier and unload the expensive items first. The cashier scans the items and removes the security tags. As one person loads up the first cart with the high value goods the second person continues to unload the second cart. The second shopper distracts the cashier while the first leaves with the expensive items in the cart. When it comes time to pay the second shopper pays with an invalid credit card or gift card. After a few embarrassing moments the second shopper tells the cashier that they will have to go and get the first shopper who has the cash and leaves the rest of the items behind. They both then leave with the expensive items. Shopping Cart Passing Shopping cart passing is attempted by a two-person group. The first person will gather the desired merchandise into a shopping cart and take it to the register. The cashier will then ring up all the merchandise and place it in bags. Once the total is rung up, the shopper pays with an invalid credit card or gift card. Acting embarrassed for not being able to pay to first shopper leaves the store. Most cashiers will put the shopping cart off to the side and resume ringing up other customers. At this point, the second person moves in and grabs the cart and walks out of the store with the stolen merchandise already in bags. Shopping Cart Hiding You find the item that you are looking for and place it under the cart. You then continue to gather a small dollar amount of merchandise and places it in the upper part of the shopping cart. You then bring the cart to the register and remove all of the merchandise with the exception of the item you wish to take on the bottom of the cart. A lot of times this will be overlooked by the cahier and not rung up. Also small expensive items can be placed under large boxes or bags that are to big to be picked up at the register. If the cashier is not paying attention you will usually be able to get the merchandise past them without much effort. After paying for the smaller dollar items you leave the store. Push Out You fill the cart with a lot of high dollar items and you then proceed to the exit. This technique works well when there are register stands throughout the store and there are multiple exits. It would also help to have a receipt in your hand from a prior visit so that it looks like you have paid for the items in the shopping cart. The Texas Twofer This in also called the Two for One technique and works well in stores that have multiple check out stands and exits. You enter the store and proceed to gather items you wish to take into a shopping cart. Then placing the cart in a predetermined out of the way area, you grab a second cart and gather the exact same items into the cart. You then take and pay for all those items and leave the store with your receipt. You can either have a second partner or do it yourself. Come back into the store with the receipt and go to your first cart. Bag up the items and proceed to another exit with your receipt as if you just purchased it. This technique could be done for a third time if the store has three exits, but I would caution that this should only be done with a partner. Bag Alarm This works best in Mall stores. You walk into a store with a bag of items from an other store. Inside the bag is a concealed active security tag that will trigger the security alarm towers at the entrance of the store. Make a big deal out of it and make sure an employee notices that it was you that trigger the gates as you entered. Comment that there must be something from another store in their bag that triggered the gates. Ask them if they want to hold onto your bag while you shop and just pick it up on the way out. Find the items you want and conceal them on your body. If you still have your bag you may want to put items underneath the items you brought in. Remember though an alert staff may want to look into your bag as you leave. Before you leave find the employee that saw you come in tell them that as you go out you might set of the alarms again. When you trigger the gates again, just keep on walking. False Alarm Have a friend enter the store a few minutes before you do and act as if you do not know each. You collect the items that you wish to take while your friend gets a few low dollar items and purchases them. As they leave the store you will walk out right behind them. As they reach the alarm towers have them hesitate a little as you walk through setting off the alarm. You discreetly keep on walking while your friend stops and draws all the attention by looking confused with the bags. They should be very co-operative and happily opens all of their bags for the employee to see yet nothing they have will triggers the gates again. Give an explanation of the False Alarm by saying that it must be cell phone interference. Decoy Alarm You place an active tag into another shoppers bag while they are not paying attention. This works especially well with someone with children. You follow closely behind them as they walk through the alarm towers. The active tag will set off the alarm and the unsuspecting shopper will stop, as you continue to walk through. Parents will think that maybe their kid had something on them. All the attention will be on them as you leave the store. Suspicious Friend Have a friend enter the store a few minutes before you do and act as if you do not know each other. The friend will walk around the store acting very suspicious. Picking up items and putting them into a pocket making sure that they are seen, but not being obvious. When an employee sees someone acting suspicious they will begin watch that person. You then proceed to the opposite side of the store and retrieve the merchandise that you wish to take. Make any necessary adjustments to the items in order to remove them and then leave. Your friend should place any objects that where concealed back and then depart. If they are stopped while exiting they can easy prove that they didnt take anything. The Bathroom Heist You need two people for this. Have a friend go into the store a few minutes after you. You go in and select whatever you want. The second person will have already entered the store and gone into the restroom. Have them wait in a stall. You go in with the merchandise. Go into the other stall next to your friend. Peek down at your friends shoes to make sure they are really next to you. Hand the merchandise under the stall, have them conceal the item and walk out first, leaving the store. You wait a couple of minutes, and then leave. If you are approached while leaving the store say you dont know what they are talking about because you didnt take anything. You decided not to buy anything and set the item down. You dont what happened to it, it is not your reasonability to keep track of stores stuff. Do not admit to anything. You did nothing wrong and Loss Prevention will have to let you go. Grazing This commonly happens at a grocery store. While you are walking around shopping, you pick up some food such as candy, and eat it. If questioned you say that you entered the store with the item. When you are done with the item you discard the empty package on a shelf. Out The Wrong Door Some stores will have a separate one way entrance and exit doors. The entrance door will normally not have an alarm and can not be opened from the inside of the store. The alarm towers will be on the exit doors. This method will require two people or the help of an unsuspecting customer. You go in and retrieve merchandise from the store and conceal it. When you are ready to leave the store with your items, you wait at the entrance door. Have your friend open the entrance door for you as you walk out. You could do this without a friends help. Just wait by the entrance as a customer comes in and grab the door before it closes and walk out. Walk Out You go into a store and shop like you normally would collecting as many expensive items as you can carry. As long as your appearance and attitude are not of a suspicious nature you should go unnoticed. Once you have collected your items just walk out and go to your car and leave. This is easily done in small clothing shops that do not have Loss Prevention. The sales associates will be slow to react. It could also be done in large department stores that have multiple entrances as long as you have a friend waiting in a car ready to leave. If the store has only Ink Tags you may not even be noticed as you leave. If an alarm sounds, then continue to walk calmly out the door. Grab and Run (not really recommended) You enter a store with prior knowledge of what you are looking for. You move toward the merchandise you wish to take. Once you have the merchandise then proceed to the nearest store exit, very quickly. I recommend two people, one as a driver and the other as the runner. Before entering the parking lot for the store, remove the license plate. Coordinate watches and have a set time that the car will pull up the door. Before dashing out, make sure the driver knows to open the rear passenger door. This way you can just run out and dive into the back as the driver peels off because employees are sure to follow you out. Find a safe place to reattach your license plate. Due to the short time that you are inside the store, the people who attempt this are rarely caught, or in some cases even detected. Also a group of people can rush a store and grab as much merchandise as possible and then rush out. The speed with which this happens and the large numbers of people involved make it very difficult to stop. Emergency Exits This a very old technique and still may work from time to time especially during the holidays. A person gathers a lot of expensive merchandise into a cart and goes to the nearest Emergency Exits. You grab all of your items, push the bar that sets off an alarm and open the door. Have a friend in a car waiting right outside the door for a fast get away. You need to remember that exits will usually have cameras watching them and all of your actions and your face could be recorded. Emergency exits will all have alarms and the newer ones are on a time release. This means when you hit it, it will not open for 10 seconds after the alarm goes off. Loss Prevention are very aware of this tactic and will be watching for suspicious behavior around these doors. Casher Scanning An easy scam done by a cashier is to have a barcode stuck on the inside of their wrist so when a friend wishes to purchase something, instead of swiping the item the cashier actually swipes their wrist. This is effective when purchasing fifty dollar video games, which will actually ring up a couple packs of gum. This method eludes security cameras since it looks like an actual sale transaction is taking place. Receipt Passing With this technique you need a partner who waits out side as you enter the store. You select an expensive item and proceed to the checkout and purchase the item. Outside of the store you Pass the receipt and the stores bag off to your partner while you take the item to your car. With the receipt and bag concealed the second person goes into the store and finds the same item. they will then inconspicuously place the item into the bag and pick up a cheaper item on the way to the registers. With the receipt in hand they pay for the cheap item telling the casher they thought that they had better get this item before they leave. Fake Returns You go to the returns desk with a receipt and a box that contains a used or broken item, or something that has the same weight as the original item. This is best done when the return cashiers are busy and will not open the package. It also helps to have completely resealed the box and saying that it has never been opened. You would just like to have something different. However most high dollar items and almost all electronics will have a serial number on the outside of the box and it will be scanned at time of purchase. If it is returned, it will have to match the serial number on the item inside the box. They will open the box to double check it. You should have purchased the original item with cash so as to leave no evidence pointing to you. Receipt printing This method is a little more involved then most techniques because it requires you to have a thermal printer and receipt paper from the store you wish to make returns to. This can only be done with stores that do not use Bar-coding identification on the receipts. You purchase a few high value items with cash and gain a receipt that you can then copy. You proceed to make multiple copies of the same receipt so that you can use them to return items that you have taken from the store for a cash refund. Receipt-less returns This is a way of receiving cash or a store merchandise card without a receipt. You could attempt to remove items from off of the sales floor, walk up to the return desk, say that you lost your receipt and you would like to receive a refund. Unfortunately this is a risky move because Loss Prevention might be watching you as you go the return desk. After concealing the items, you leave the store. You would then proceed to another store and return the item there with out a receipt. Most stores will now require you to have a photo ID to return an item without a receipt and will limit how many returns you can make in a year. Large dollar amounts will always have to be approved by a supervisor. You can have fake Ids made up so that you can return more often to a store. Fence Sliding In stores that have garden centers one may be capable of sliding small expensive items under the fence. You then leave out the exit and come around to where slide your item under the fence. Or you could slide it to a waiting friend on the other side. Just remember to watch for those outdoor cameras. Key & Serial Numbers Many people download versions of games or software from the internet but cannot use the full version without a valid license. There are a couple ways of obtaining a license without removing the merchandise from the store. Take the item into a blind spot so that the packaging can be removed. Conceal the item and then take it into the privacy of a bathroom or dressing room to remove the packaging. Copy the serial number and then place the package in an inconspicuous place away from prying eyes. Defective Software A person buys a piece of software from a computer store, exits, opens the software, and records the serial number / CD key for single license of the software purchased. After at least a few hours the same person re-enters the store where he bought the software and complains to customer service that the installation disc is defective. Most computer store policies allow same-item exchange for opened computer software, so the person is given a different copy of the same software. The person now has two licenses after only paying for one. Self-Checkout It is possible to pass small items expensive items or large items through the self checkout without scanning them. You can do this if you have a lot of items you are purchasing. You can take a large item and pretend to scan it and place it right into the bag at the same time you pick up on the bag and place into your cart. The bagging area has a weigh scale that checks the weight of the scanned items. If there is a discrepancy, the supervising attendant is signaled to come to the station for assistance. The object is to never let the unscanned item sit in the bagging area. The scales will some times miss small light items so you could place multiple items into a bag without the computer noticing it. Beware - these checkout lanes are watched very closely by LP. Most have a camera overhead watching what you scan and a computer screen off site mirroring what your scanning. Barcode Counterfeiting While you are shopping you find an expensive item that you wish to have. You also noticed a cheaper version of the same item. You copy the numbers down from the UPC / Barcode off of the cheaper item. You can find bar coding applications and information on the internet that will generate a bar code for you. Print one out on a sticky label and then take it back into the store and place it over the barcode of the expensive item. Go through the checkout process, make a payment, have any security tags deactivated by the cashier and then walk out without arousing suspicion with your new item. Ticket Switching You find an item on clearance and remove the clearance tag. You then find a similar high dollar item and apply the clearance tag to it. You then bring the high dollar item to an unsuspecting cashier and pay for it at a clearance price. Unfortunately most retailers today now utilize electronic barcodes that when scanned will ring up the correct price. Gift Card Cloning With this tactic you go into a store and remove a bunch of Gift Cards that have no value. With a card reader you obtain the numbers off of the magnetic strip on the back of the cards and make copies of them. You then return the cards and wait for a customer to activate one. Once activated and money is added to the card the value is also then passed to the cloned card. Opps - Did I Do That When a person takes their place in the check out line with the items they intend to take, and pay for only one of those items while holding what they want to take in full view to cause confusion but avoid suspicion due to their apparent intention of payment. If the unlikely event of being caught, they could simply pass off the attempt as accidental. Some of these are obviously more practical than others but thought to add them all anyway. Feel free to add more, happy lifting + stay safe. update: thanks for the gold mate.

There wasnt much to see. Blacktop and retroreflectors stared back at Susan, the driver, and the occasional speed limit sign was visible for a few seconds as the truck roared past, blatantly ignoring the “70” printed in faded ink. The details of the truck were hard to work out with only a starry sky to light it. An observer might mistake the navy blue for pure black, might not be able to read the torn bumper sticker, might think that the bits of blood and flesh stuck into the corners of the grill guard were merely mud. Country music warbled quietly from the CD player, a dozen songs on repeat that the driver knew by heart. Susan adjusted her rearview mirror with three fingers, eyeing her passenger, a lanky girl with pixie cut that had grown shaggy. The girl was lounging across the three rear seats, a bundle of old laundry serving as a pillow. She had to sit up in the narrow backseat bench to stretch her arms, yawning deeply and blinking a few times to clear the sleep from her system. “Thanks for taking an extra shift, ” she mumbled. “Ive got the next shift. ” Lifting her thumb from the steering wheel, Susan eyed the fuel gauge, then looked at the assorted pile of change sitting in the cupholder. “There might not be a next shift, Lily. ” “Liliana, ” she corrected, half standing in the backseat. “Im coming up there. ” Susan grimaced and leaned to the left as Lily swung one leg over the front seat, then another, briefly straddling the headrest. Her muddy designer shoes stayed at eye level for a moment, then she tumbled into the passenger seat with practiced clumsiness. Spinning in place, she got buckled up. Leaning so she could see the fuel gauge, Lily asked, “Are we that low on cash? ” “Ive got three bucks, plus whatevers in the cupholder, ” Susan explained, twisting the steering wheel to move around a patch of roadkill. “We can maybe get a couple gallons in the tank, but we dont know how long itll be without another gas stop. ” “Were not going to get stranded again, ” Lily said immediately, leaning down to fish through the backpack at his feet, taking inventory. “Both spare cans are empty, right? ” Susan nodded “Ran them dry when we decided to skip that last station. ” “And I dont regret that decision. ” Lily pulled out a bag of mixed nuts and chocolate chips, tossed it onto the middle seat by the stick shift, and continued rummaging for a bottle of water to accompany the snack. “Is that the last of our food? ” Susan asked, raising an eyebrow without looking away from the road. Lily dug through her pack for a second longer, then sat back. “Think so. ” “Hmm. ” Ripping open the trail mix, Lily poured a handful out and tossed it into her mouth, chewing loudly as she offered the rest of the bag to Susan. Susan shook her head, not hungry. “Take an inventory, ” Susan decided. “Figure out what weve got to work with. Maybe theres something in here we can sell. ” Lily snorted, almost spitting out of her food. Without swallowing first, she asked, “To who? ” “Whoever. ” Susan shrugged. “Just do the inventory. ” Rolling her eyes, Lily set the open pouch of trail mix in the open cup holder, washed what she had down with a swig of water, and scooped up the change into her hand, mouthing the numbers as she counted. “One…” she mumbled, dropping four quarters back in place. “Two… Three… Three fifty… seven. Three fifty-seven. “Thats less than seven bucks, with my cash, ” Susan said. “Maybe six gallons if the price is low. A fifth of a tank. ” “Well, shit, ” Lily said, dropping the last few pennies into place. Returning to her backpack, she pulled out a cell phone, flipping it open and powering up the device. It chimed cheerfully as the LCD powered on. Susan stole a glance at the screen, looking away from the road long enough to see the ‘NO SIGNAL message flash across the top of the screen in blocky digital letters. She wasnt surprised, but she scowled anyways. “Still nothing, but Ive got half the battery left, ” Lily said, snapping the phone shut and tossing it back into her bag. She came out with his snub-nosed. 22, a tiny revolver that could fit in her jacket without sticking out of a pocket. Flicking out the cylinder, she counted on her fingers. “Three rounds in here, ” she said, stuffing the gun into her jacket and leaning to pull the shotgun from its jury-rigged holster on the passenger door. She broke it in half, checking the shells inside, then checking the slots on the outside of the holster. “Five shells. ” She jammed the shotgun back into place, avoiding the duct tape that held the holster down. “Enough to stop a couple someones, then, ” Susan said, unconsciously patting the side of her leg, where shed strapped a nine-inch combat knife. As a backup weapon, itd seen more than a little use. “Better than nothing. ” Lily chewed on her thumbnail, mulling over their other supplies. “Spare tire in the back, two empty gas cans, most of your toolbox. Weve got an axe head but no axe, a shovel, a couple road flares. Nothing we can sell, unless we start ripping parts off the truck. ” “All in all, nothing new. ” “Its good to know where we stand, though. We do have one more problem. ” “Whats that? ” Lily leaned forward and slapped a button on the dash, killing the music. “If Ive got to listen to Toby Keith sing about himself one more time, Im going to chuck this CD out the window. ” Susan slapped Lilys hand away and turned the CD player back on. It was an aftermarket installation, one that shed been skeptical of at the time but welcomed now. Tim McGraw began crooning about his failed marriage, and she said, “My turn to drive, my music. When you drive, Lily, you can put on whatever you want. ” “Liliana, ” Lily said again. “And I cant put on anything else when we havent got anything else. ” “Theres the radio, ” Susan suggested. “Yeah, right, ” Lily said, hand darting forward to press another button before Susan could slap her hand away again. The radio began scanning for FM channels, each one echoing with a slight variation of white noise and static. Pursing her lips and sighing, Susan returned to the CD once again. The music hesitated as the player clicked, remembering its place and resuming the last song. “And you know the AM sounds exactly the same, ” Lily complained. “Weve got exactly one CD, and its got exactly zero good songs. ” “Well, I like it, so you can suck an egg. ” Susan regretted the comment quickly. Lily could always coax childish taunts out of her, bring her down to the girls level, and it always made her feel the fool afterwards. “God, Id kill for an egg right now, ” Lily said, jumping the conversation to a completely new track before Susan could start brooding. “Or anything that has a shelf life not measured in decades. ” Susan squinted into the night, then pointed. “You see that light? ” “Where? ” Lily asked, leaning forward, trying to see what she was pointing at. “Behind that rise, I dont think you can see it now. Well come over a ledge in just a sec, keep an eye out. ” The road tilted up, creating what could generously be called a low hill. “See it! ” Lily exclaimed. “Gas station? ” “Truck stop, if were lucky, ” Susan replied. “Well check it out. Keep an eye out, it could be a trap. ” They rolled forward in silence. Lily checked her gun twice during the three minutes it took to approach the station, nervously sipping on her water every few moments until the bottle was empty. The exit sign had been knocked down, and Susan almost missed the off ramp until it was too late. Swerving, she hit the brakes and controlled their turn off the highway. “Jesus! ” Lily shouted, grabbing the door as she was thrown into her seatbelt. “A little warning next time? ” “That was an accident, ” Susan pointed out. “If Id had the time give you a warning, I wouldnt have done it in the first place. ” “Right, ” Lily grumbled, sitting back as they turned right, pulling into the truck stops parking lot. At the very least, it was well lit. A wave of fog had rolled in, shrouding the outside landscape, but they could see the station itself with ease. The flickering incandescent bulbs kept all eight pumps in stark display. Susan pulled over to a green diesel pump, only remembering to turn off her high beams after accidentally flashing a semi truck parked off to the side and receiving an angry honk in response. “Were not the only ones here. ” Lily eyed the semi warily. “Think its safe? ” “I think we dont have a choice, ” Susan replied, shifting to neutral, pulling the parking brake, and finally unbuckling. The music died as she turned off the truck and took her keys, twirling them in her left hand before sticking them in a pocket. The flourish was difficult considering her pinkie and ring fingers were in a makeshift splint, but she managed. “Check and see if the pump takes card. We might get lucky. ” Lily thumbed the lock on the door, patted her pocket to ensure his pistol was still there, and swung out into the chill air. “Its cold out, ” she said, zipping up his jacket. “Noted. ” Susan pocketed her keys and turned to dig out her own jacket from the pile in the backseat. Lily walked up to the pump, fishing her wallet out from her jeans pocket, flipping it open, and retrieving a black credit card. On the pump, blue tape had been stuck over the card slot with the words, ‘CARD NOT WORKING written in black sharpie. She ripped away the tape, stuck her card into the slot, and waited patiently while the display on the pump processed. A few seconds passed, then it read, ‘Error: See attendant. “No luck, ” she said, sticking the card back in her wallet. “Figures, ” Susan said, hopping down onto the pavement. “Lets see if they can help us inside. ” Lily nodded, looking over at the semi truck. “Is the truck locked? ” Susan fished the keys out of her pocket, walked back to the door, and locked it manually. “It is now. ” They crossed to the truck stops entrance quickly, eyes peeled for any danger. Nothing came, and the door was unlocked, so she held it open and let Lily cross inside first. The interior of the truck stop smelled like cigarette smoke and dog piss. Susan stepped in a puddle of something as she walked in. Looking down, she saw a yellow puddle right in the doorway. “Gross, ” Lily commented, looking down at the sound of the splash. “Doesnt this place have a bathroom? ” From behind a laminated sheet of glass and fencing, a man blew out a cloud of smoke and stubbed out the remains of his cigarette, discarding the butt in an ash tray. “Some dickhead brought his mutt in here, ” he explained, already lighting a new one. “Told him to get it out, thing wasnt trained for shit. Pissed all over the place before he finally left. ” “And you dont have a mop? ” Lily asked, eyeing the man. He was short and fat, with an unkempt beard and grease marks all over his blue T shirt, matching the stains on his teeth and on the counter he was leaning against. He was a dirty man, and he blended in well with the dirty truck stop. “Got to attend to the register, ” he said, holding up a book of crossword puzzles to emphasize his point. “Right, ” Lily said, skeptically, as she looked at the ground and watched her step, making sure there was nothing else unsavory to step in between her and the counter. The stop was lit by cheap fluorescent lights, the kind that buzzed and flickered in time with each other, making her head hurt as she leaned forward. “Can I get some help? The card reader outside didnt work. ” “‘Cause theyre broken. Cant you read, girl? ” Susan turned away from their conversation, shaking droplets off her boot and scanning the aisles. There were a couple rows of snacks, a shelf of car repair supplies, a rotating display of over-designed knives with iridescent handles, kept behind a locked pane of glass. Old tortilla chips sat in a basket next to a bubbling pot of nacho cheese with a dark orange film slowly solidifying on top, untouched by any outside influences for what looked to be days. She started scanning the snack aisles, looking for the best combination of calories to price, seeing if it would be possible to make a few meals for two people without spending much money. A loaf of white bread and a jar of peanut butter would have kept them going for a couple days, but she didnt see any groceries. Their best bet was going to be snack cakes and beef jerky, with candy to taste. Susan longed for something with a few vitamins in it, but their first priority was having the energy to keep driving. Everything else was secondary to that. A healthy protein bar was twice the cost of a Snickers, and the Snickers had more calories. It was a no brainer. Of course, all that was moot if Lilys card was declined. She looked over to see the girl arguing with the cashier, who was staring back impassively, blowing smoke into Lilys face from behind his grate. Setting down her handful of snacks, Susan walked over to the counter, placing a firm hand on Lilys shoulder. She stopped and nearly whirled on Susan, but Susan spoke quickly so she wouldnt panic at the intrusion on her personal space. “Whats the problem? ” “Card readers down, ” the attendant explained, sounding bored. “Do you have any checks we could fill out? ” Susan asked. “We only cash local checks. ” Lily threw up her hands. “Local? Whos that, you and the trucker? ” “Girl, whinins not gonna change our policy, ” the attendant said, calmly clicking his pen and noting down a word in his crossword. “G-A-U-R-D. Guard. ” “Youve got that backwards, ” Susan said, pointing. “Its ‘U-A. ” “I think I know what Im doin, ” the attendant replied. “Anyways, either get cash or get out. Not my problem which you pick. ” Lily flipped her middle finger at the man, who looked up for just long enough to roll his eyes before taking a drag and returning to his puzzle. Bitterly, Lily trudged outside, skirting the yellow puddle on the floor. “Well thats a crock of shit, ” Lily exclaimed, once the door shut behind them. “What are we going to do? ” “Get six dollars of gas, hope the next station is close, ” Susan said. “Its that, or wait for someone to come through here thats feeling charitable. ” “Fat chance, ” Lily said, stalking back to the car. “How much cash do you think he has in that register? ” “ No. ” Susan stopped, keeping her keys in her pocket. “Were not doing that. ” “Why not? ” Lily asked, trying the truck handle. It resisted, still locked. “Open the door. ” “Were not doing that because I said so, ” Susan insisted. “If you go in there and pull a two-one-one to take what you want, you dont get to ride in my truck. ” Lily threw up her arms, facing Susan. “It wouldnt be the first time weve had to fight someone to survive. We dont even have to worry about cops coming after us, so why—” “We only do that when we dont have a choice, ” Susan said, gritting her teeth. “When they dont leave us a choice. ” “Do we have a choice here? ” Lily asked. “Its starve here, starve on the road, or pray we come across the first friendly soul weve ever seen out here. ” “Besides me. ” “Besides you. ” Susan shook her head. “If you dont want to go, we dont go, but were not going to rob anyone. The law doesnt go away just because theres nobody around to enforce it. ” “Thats bullshit, ” Lily glowered. Sticking her hand into her pocket, she pulled out the revolver. Stepping back, Susan raised her hands. “Woah there, wait a minute. We dont—” “Oh, for fucks sake, Im not going to shoot you. ” Lily pushed out the cylinder, crossing to her side and pointing at the three empty chambers. “You see that? ” “Youve got three rounds left, ” Susan agreed. “Whats your point? ” “You remember how we used the other three? ” Susan sucked in an angry breath between her teeth. “Yes, but—” “Can you name anything recently thats gone our way without some kind of bloodshed? Without a fight? Without breaking some kind of law? ” “No, but weve never been instigators, and—” “Thats how it works out here! ” Lily shoved the gun back into her jacket pocket, running her fingers through her unkempt hair. “We dont get to be the nice guys. The good guys. We dont get to avoid the fight because it looks dangerous, or mean, or nasty. ” “Fine, but—” “And besides that, we…” Lily trailed off, facing Susan with a puzzled expression. “What? ” “I said fine, ” Susan repeated, gritting her teeth as she added, “Youre right. But were not just going to shoot him up. ” “So, what, I hold him at gunpoint while you fill the tank and get a sack full of food? ” Lily asked. “Something like that, yeah, ” Susan agreed. “Fine. ” Lily looked off her guard, unsure to react now that shed won the argument. “So…” “So, Ill get our cash, and well act like were getting some food to buy. Youll go to the cash register, say you want six bucks in gas, and stick the gun through the window while hes reaching for the register. ” Susan explained. “Huh? ” “You keep him pinned down, make him give you the cash and start the pumps, ” Susan explained. “Ill make sure the pump works and grab all the food I can, you just have to keep him in place. ” “Youve planned this out an awful lot. ” Susan pursed her lips. “Isnt it all just obvious? ” Lily looked at her gun again, then proffered it out to Susan. “You should do it, its your plan. ” “I dont want to do this in the first place, ” Susan said, rejecting the offer. “Besides…frankly, you look a lot more harmless than me. Act cool and youll be less suspicious. ” Lily grumbled and turned, pushing her way back into the truck stop, skirting the puddle once again. Susan trailed behind the girl, and together they endured an uncomfortable stare from the cashier while they walked to the snack aisle. “Shit, ” Lily whispered, once they were in the aisle. “Did you see that look? He knows were up to something. ” “Hes just a grumpy bastard, ” Susan whispered back. “Were fine, dont worry about it. ” Taking two candy bars, Lily walked up from the aisle, approaching the cashier. Susan wasnt sure if the girls hands were shaking, or if just seemed that way from the flickering lights, but either way Lily visibly stopped and took a breath to calm herself down. Shit, Susan thought. Hes definitely going to know something is up now. “Ill get these, ” Lily said, tossing down the two candy bars and looking around the little storefront nervously. “How much? ” The attendant reached forward under the grate and took one of the bars, examining it for a moment before sliding it under a scanner, only glancing away from Lily for long enough to read the scanners display. “Two dollars even. Anything else? ” “Yeah. ” Liliana stuck her hand in her pocket, grip tightening on the little revolver. Please work. “Give me all the money in the register! ” Liliana froze, surprised to hear a gruff, unfamiliar voice steal the words from her lips. To her right, a distinct, rumbling growl echoed into the truck stop, loud enough that Liliana could no longer hear the whine from the lights. Then, the mechanical Cha-chunk of a slide action shotgun echoed in her ears, and even the growl seemed a small problem by comparison. Liliana looked towards the door, and then staggered back as she saw the trucker standing in the doorway. He was huge. At least six feet tall, and built like a brick shithouse and holding a shotgun that had been cut down nearly to stock. His elastic-banded ball cap strained to stay on his head, and the leather jacket he wore looked thick enough to qualify as some kind of medieval armor. At his feet, a similarly built black mastiff was snarling angrily, all its teeth showing in a fierce display. It seemed almost cartoonish in its proportions, huge fangs and massive limbs on an emaciated frame, patches of matted fur and raw, red skin where someone had apparently shaved the dog clean with a rusty kitchen knife. In other circumstances, Liliana might have pitied the creature, but at the moment she couldnt think of it as anything other than a monster that was hungry for her blood. It was looking at her, specifically, as though she had done something to personally offend the huge hound and it wanted revenge. She stepped back, not wanting to get involved. If anything, she was hoping that the big man would knock out the cashier and leave, leaving the store open to looting. Liliana felt that the she deserved a lucky turn after so long getting the short end of the stick. “You, kid, ” the man growled, boots splashing in the puddle as he strolled inside. “That your truck outside? ” “Not mine, ” Liliana said, stepping back, feeling her shoulders press up against the glass display behind her. Jamming a thumb down the aisle at Susan, she said, “Hers. ” The mans gun whipped around, leveled at Susans chest. “Keys. It got gas? ” “Thanks, ” Susan muttered at Liliana, putting her hand on her pocket. “Got the keys right here, but the tanks empty. ” “Toss ‘em over, then, ” the trucker grumbled. “Gentle, like. ” Susan nodded. “Nobodys got to get hurt here. Im taking them out, now, so dont shoot. ” The trucker grunted, hand on the stock. Liliana was ready to move, to run at the first sign of trouble, but the big dog still in the doorway was going to make any flight difficult. Hands slowly drawing from her pocket, Susan took out her keys, holding up the ring and flashing them in the shitty fluorescent light. Lowering her hand, she made a little lobbing motion, preparing a gentle toss. Then she flung the metal ring underhanded, straight at the truckers face. The trucker swore as one of the keys caught him in the eye, squeezing down on the trigger of his shotgun. The blast made Lilianas ears ring in the confined space, muting out the buzz and growl of her surroundings entirely as her ears tried to adjust to the sudden thunderclap. Then, Susan was beside her, kicking hard against the food display. It tumbled forward, sloshing hot cheese and landing against the truckers leg as he tried to chamber a new round in his gun. The next moment, Susan was brandishing a tiny canister of pepper spray that Lily didnt even know she had. Thumbing the top, Susan unloaded the spray directly into the truckers eyes. Liliana was busy digging the gun from her pocket as the trucker roared, raising one arm to shield his eyes, flailing the other out in Susans direction, using the stock of his shotgun like a club. By then, the dog had reacted, leaping in from where it had stood at the doorway, charging to defend its master. Flicking away the safety, Liliana barely aimed before pulling the trigger, gun popping as it fired a small round into the dog. The shot struck home and the mastiff yelped, claws scraping at the tile floor as it reacted to the surprise wound. Ignoring the scarcity of rounds for a moment, Liliana pulled the trigger again, and then a third time, all three shots landing square on the target. The beast twitched two more times, recovered, and rounded its snarl to point at her. “Oh, shi—” she had time to start, before the dog had leapt at her, jaws snapping angrily. Liliana managed to get her arms between herself and the mastiffs huge teeth, but that only meant that its teeth were dug into the meat of her arm, not of the meat of her throat. Susan ducked under the truckers arm, taking advantage of his pain and rage to get behind him and grab at his neck, trying to establish a locking hold. The huge trucker had her beat on size and muscle, and she expected any solid hits from his flailing fists would be enough to end the fight, but as long as he was blind she had a chance. Getting both arms over the trucker, Susan grabbed her own wrist and pulled back, getting her arm flat against his throat and cutting off the circulation. She grinned fiercely, right up until the back of his head smashed into her face, followed by a wild elbow struck her in the side. The blows hit like a sledgehammer, and her grip suddenly vanished as a shock went through her side. She fell, crashing into a shelf of chips that was, in turn, thrown back, sending both her and the chips into a roll. Wiping the blood from her mouth, Susan went for her knife. Liliana, meanwhile, was kicking and flailing against the huge dog snarling at her person. There was blood spilling from her arm, and no matter how hard she hit, the beast only seemed interested in clamping down, holding steady, and scraping with its claws just in case the biting wasnt bad enough. At least her ears were no longer ringing from gunfire, but now all she could hear were her own cries of pain as the dogs bite dug harder down, nearly cutting to the bone. She tried to punch the mastiff in the snout, but if the dog had shrugged off his bullets quickly, it didnt seem to even notice the fists. Scrabbling at the floor with her feet, Liliana tried to grab with her free arm for anything that could help. There wasnt much around that would help. She found a snack bar and threw it at the dogs face, but it seemed to barely notice, so Lily reached out again, hand slapping against a tall glass case. It would have to do. Yanking hard, she brought the shelf crashing down directly atop her own person, making sure to at least get her head out of the way. It toppled and slammed onto the mastiff, and then the combined weight of the dog and the shelf were both pressed against Lilianas chest, adding to the pains racking her body. Only then did the glass shatter, tiny crystal shards making cuts across her face and hands as dozens of cheap, decorative knives were scattered across the floor. The dog, for its part, got back onto all fours, growling more angrily than ever. Liliana grimaced, picking up one of the knives and scrambling to her feet before the hound could charge again. “You have got to be kidding me. ” Susans own blade was a bit more heavy-duty, four and a half inches of high carbon steel that had never let her down before. The trucker had spun to face her and was holding his shotgun by the stock, squinting through red, puffy eyelids. As Susan tried to decide how to proceed, he made the decision for her, shouldering the gun and aiming it loosely in her direction. She cried out and jumped forward, grabbing the barrel and jamming it sideways, feeling sudden heat as the gun roared and fired into a gallon of anti-freeze stacked against the wall. The trucker wrenched away the gun and swung it at her head, but Susan managed to duck and lunge even closer in, stabbing with her knife as hard as she could. The blade pierced leather, then cotton, and then finally contacted with flesh and cut into the truckers chest, too far from his heart to be instantly fatal, but enough to give him something to think about. Liliana held out her knife and tried to keep the hound at bay, crouched low and ready to scramble away should the dog actually lunge. It was angry and injured, but still wary enough to know that leaping straight into a blade wouldnt be a good idea, even if that blade was three inches long and unnecessarily wide and dull. The knife was built for form more than function, but it could stab, and the dog understood that. It circled, and Liliana spun on unsteady feet, ensuring that neither could gain the advantage. The roar of the shotgun made Liliana wince away, and given that split-second hesitation, the mastiff jumped in with jaws snapping. Liliana jabbed out the knife in response, but she was too slow to land a solid blow. The dog knocked aside the attack and bit at her hand, and in response Liliana dropped the knife and ran backwards, struggling to stay upright while running on the cheap, sticky tile. Claws scratching on the ground, the dog charged at her, and as she passed the end of the aisle, she lunged to the side just in time for the beast to slam into the refrigerator door behind her, shattering the glass and knocking down a shower of plastic soda bottles. The dog shook its head, turned, and charged again. This time, Liliana was prepared. Her knife was tiny and cheap, but it was the best defense she had. As the huge, rawboned creature leapt at her, she jammed the knife out, striking somewhere around the dogs ribcage. The blade sunk all the way to the hilt, all three inches of cheap steel lodged in deep enough that Liliana couldnt pull it out for a second blow. If it hurt, though, the dog barely seemed to care. Snarling, it took her to the ground, gnashing at her throat for all it was worth. Susan wasnt quick enough to dodge the truckers huge, flailing fists and took a blow to the head, the heavy thud strong enough to make her dizzy and release the handle of her knife. She staggered away, and he did as well, both needing a moment to recover before continuing the brawl. She stepped back, giving herself space. If he was going to charge, she wanted room to react. Of course, if he tried to shoot, shed be farther away and have to close the distance faster, but one way or another she would be screwed, so she trusted her gut to decide which way to go. The trucker did as shed hoped and charged, wet boots planting right in the puddle of sloshing antifreeze. His boots had rubberized slip-resistant soles, but as top-heavy as he was, the unexpected fluid was enough to make him stagger, and Susan was happy to take advantage of his momentary weakness. She kicked at the truckers knee and grabbed for his gun with both arms, sending the big man toppling to the ground. He flailed to try and catch something, and that gave her all the leverage she needed to pry away the gun, spinning it around so that the barrel was pointed right at the truckers head. Taking one short breath to aim, Susan pulled the trigger. It clicked, and the ejection port caught halfway with a new shell before the old could be released. She only had time to yell “Fuck! ” before the trucker had grabbed her ankles and pulled, bringing her down to his level. Landing on her back, Susan had no time to be stunned. The trucker was clawing his way towards her, reaching for the gun, getting into a position where he could just throw down punches and elbows until she stopped moving. Taking the shotgun by its short barrel, Susan swung as hard as she could from her prone position, hitting the trucker in the face with a satisfying cracking sound. He flinched, and in that time, Susan raised the gun again, bringing it down once more, cracking the stock as it split open his scalp. He roared, and she swung again, shattering the plastic stock against his head. He stopped clutching at her, and Susan kicked her feet and pushed with her hands to clamber away, grabbing at one of the standing shelves to pull herself up. The trucker groaned, rolling onto his back and feeling for the knife in his chest. Not wanting to stick around and see what hed do with it, Susan skirted around him and ran for the exit. Liliana was focused on the fangs about to dig into her throat, but wasnt so distracted that she didnt see Susan go. “Susan? ” she shouted, eyes wide in alarm. “Susan! Fuck, I could use some help here! ” The mastiff barked in her face, something that seemed almost as loud as the shotgun blasts, and she tried again to ineffectually shove it back. The knife was still stuck in its chest, and Liliana had no leverage to pull it out with her one good arm. If she tried to get a good handle and yank it out, but in the moment she did that, there would be nothing covering her throat. If that happened, shed be too busy dying to strike back. Kicking with her legs, she tried to get at anything that might help. Maybe she could knock over another shelf, cause a distraction. Maybe the gas station attendant would finally get off his ass and help, for that matter. No such luck. Lilianas flailing legs found nothing but slick tile and cheap, scattered knives that she was too far away to grab. She jerked away, trying to put more distance between herself and the dog, but her head was already pressed against tile and when she tried to move, shards of broken glass just found their way into the back of her neck and scalp. She had nowhere to go, no way to escape, no— BOOM. Gunfire rang in her ears for the fourth time in a minute, and the dog was thrown to the side, falling off of her with a loud whimper. Lily wasnt about to take chanced. Spinning onto her side and reaching out with her good arm, Lily took a knife from the floor, flicked it open, and brought it down hard somewhere in the black dogs neck. Spraying blood covered Lilys face and arms, and she rolled away, staggering to her feet and looking around. Susan was standing in the doorway, their trusty double barrel held in a tight shooters grip. She lowered the weapon long enough to make sure that the dog wasnt moving, then turned, pointing it down at the trucker. She didnt have any quips, she just pulled the trigger and put an ounce of buckshot between his eyes. The truckers body twitched once, then lay still. “Jesus! ” Lily screamed, leaning back against the counter. “Jesus fucking fuck. ” Susan looked at her, pulled the lever to fold open the gun, and smoothly reloaded. “You okay? ” “I—” Lily stopped, thinking about the question. She was, mostly. “Dog tore open my arm pretty bad, got some cuts, Ill be fine. ” “Good, ” Susan said, looking over to the station attendant. The squat man had been cowering behind the counter, and only then stood to face them. “Any chance youll take a check now? ” The attendant looked at her, then around the store, then shook his head. “You trashed my store! Ive got half a mind to kick you out for good. ” Lily threw up her arm. “Are you fucking kidding me? We just saved your ass, and now—” “Lily, ” Susan cut her off with a word. “First aid in the back of the truck. Go get yourself fixed up. ” “But—” Lily spluttered. “He—” “Ive got this, ” Susan said, crouching by the truckers body and yanking her knife from his chest, wiping the blood off on his pants. Liliana grumbled and stalked out to the truck, feeling the blood on her face quickly cool in the night air. She crossed his arms in front of his chest, trudging to the truck, dropping the tailgate and pulling out their first aid kit. Their first kit had started out as a basic set of emergency gear, but it had ballooned in size since they realized how important it was going to be. It now took up an entire utility-sized tackle box, stuffed to the gills with bandages, stitches, superglue, and anything else they could pillage. She slipped off her jacket, then paused, gritting her teeth. “Okay, just do it, ” Liliana told herself, before yanking her shirt over her head. The night wasnt below freezing, but without a shirt it was cold, and rubbing an alcoholic wipe over the bite marks on her arm made it flare up with stinging pain. “Dammit, dammit, dammit, ” she chanted in annoyance, wiping away the blood and tossing the expended wipe on the ground, fishing in the kit for an antibiotic cream. Once the wound was clean and shed done what she could to stop infection, Liliana stuck an adhesive patch over her arm, then walked to the side of the truck to get a new shirt from their pile. Before she could get the door open, she heard footsteps and spun in alarm. Susan was holding up an old, ratty blanket, offering it to her. It was covered in dog hair, but looked pretty warm, and she accepted it gratefully. “Whered you get this? ” Liliana asked, shivering as she pulled the blanket over her shoulders like a cape. “Trucker had his keys on him, ” Susan explained, holding up a bulging leather rectangle in her hand. “And this has two hundred bucks in cash. ” “Nice, ” Liliana said, leaning against the truck. “Get his gun? ” “Broken, but its a twelve gauge, and he had half a box of shells left. ” “Not a bad stop, then. ” Liliana winced, putting a hand to her arm. “Ill go get us food and gas, and Ill drive the next round, ” Susan offered. “That bite looked pretty nasty. ” “Its not bad, just—” Liliana started to move her arm to demonstrate that it wasnt too bad, then winced and shook his head. “Okay, yeah, its pretty bad. I can drive fine, though. You should rest. ” Susan shrugged, sticking a hand into her jacket. “One more thing. ” “Whats that? ” Liliana asked, raising an eyebrow. “Cash wasnt the only thing he had in that truck. ” Susan pulled her hand free, displaying what shed taken. “Fuckin A! ” Liliana said, grabbing the object enthusiastically. “Oh, I am definitely driving next. ” “Get a shirt on, then, ” Susan said. “We need to get back on the road. ” Ten minutes later, they were cruising down the highway once again, blasting Down with the Sickness as loud as Susan could tolerate, the truckers CD collection getting put to good use. Though neither of them noticed, as the music player changed tracks, they passed a milestone. It had been six thousand miles since they started driving together. They hadnt seen the sun in five days. They kept driving.

“I heard the Hotel Inertia shifts its contents when youre not one moment youll spy a mountain off in the distance, damn thing's been there every day for thirteen one day and then itll be gone the know they say-” “Hold on, you have a fucking mountain on your floor? You gotta be kidding me, Robin. First we have Wendys floor filled with Wendigos…” A couple of chuckles break out amongst us, childish as we are. They continue, their monocle shining under the blue light. “... now this? I know the hotel has a reputation but cmon, I never uncovered anything like that in my research! ” “They aren't kidding, Beirne, trust me. Ive seen weird shit on my floor too. All the stars are going out, elder says its a sign of the end or The Concierge is forgetting to pay the friggin electric bill again…” “All these stories, then theres me sat on top of my radio tower all this time …” “Fiddler on the roof? ” we all say in unison. Laughter echoes throughout the elevator, some of us more beat up than others but completely brought together in that moment of solidarity. The kind you get right before youre about to face a great beast. Our elevator has been rising for a day or so now, we know that when it stops, everything changes. So, this seems like a good a time as any to share what we have so far. “You gonna start, chief? ” Soma calls from the phone, all eyes turning to me. I nurse my ribs and try to get comfortable. “You know it, you got my music ready for me? ” I ask, the voice of my best friend barely able to contain her enthusiasm. “I do, but make sure you dont fuck up, okay? This is your introduction, Ros. cool! Please! ” I smile and hit play. My name is Sigurd Jónsson, Ros for short (Yes, the band. No, I didnt choose it. Ive been stuck in this hotel for over a week now. Im currently in the service elevator with bioluminescent lighting the only light I have, thankfully I have my music…if you feel like immersing yourself, feel free to join me. I figured before my. our next task on Floor 13, itd be good to get this out into the world for brevity. See if anyone else has been to this place or can offer me some form of advice…but hell, Im mostly just doing it so if I die when I reach the 13th floor, someone will know what happened to me. Hotel Inertia has a reputation that precedes it. The name itself is in hindsight paradoxical. You name it, people say they saw it. A room with a doppelgänger of themselves? Yep. A hallway that has nothing but baby hands? You know it. A vegan entering a room full of headless pigs screeching at them? one may be a prank. But the fact remains that the Hotel Inertia gained a reputation in these parts as a “last chance saloon” of sorts, you only go there when youve got nowhere else to you need to be paid. Enter: me. Needing to get paid. I took a job with an outsourcing agency that guaranteed quick and efficient work with minimal checks, some shit went down in my old town and I needed a change of pace. Where I was at wasnt doing it for me and new scenery felt like a chance to grow. Fuck me if I didnt get that chance and then some. Look, I dont know if youll believe me, but like the title hotel…its not normal. Not in a paranormal activity kinda way, thatd be lame and, much like a takeout from “The Winking Eel”, largely unsatisfying. Thats not a good explanation, but itll become clear as we go on. Ill start at the beginning, this is being dictated to my personal phone so youll have to forgive any syntax errors, Ill clean it up as best I can. Day 1. Hotel Lobby. Land of the snobs. “Welcome to The Hotel Inertia, we hope your stay will be most normal, ” this fuckin creep beamed back at me as I stepped through the huge oak doors, the bright foyer almost blinding me if this guys teeth didnt do it first. I swear, had I been any closer, itd have peeled my skin off with the shimmer. “Uh, yeah…hi. Im Sigurd Jónsson, the maintenance guy you guys requested to deal with some of the outstanding issues? ” I extend a hand out, this dude was pulling a Fibonacci spiral with his spinal cord to lean in and was decidedly creepier when he did not extend his own hand, instead bowing deeply. “I understand, Mr Jónsson, please sign in and accept my apologies for obstructing your most important journey. Ring the bell once you are done and The Concierge will attend to your every need. ” He began to walk away as I called after him, “Oh thats okay bro, I can just sign in and get on with it, The Concierge is no big deal, they don't really deal with me…” when he stopped in his tracks. I dont just mean he stopped walking, I mean the dude became inert. His entire body seized up and he twisted around to face me in one continuous pivot, eyes wide and smile pulled up like it was on fucking tenterhooks. “The Concierge is vital, Mr Jónsson. More-so than anywhere else. I would strongly advise against demeaning her in her own home. Good luck to you. ” I felt my hairs stand up on end, but I nodded and let him walk out of view before I imitated his frozen up stature and penguin walked myself over to the desk, a visitors form greeting me with a large silver bell to the left. I did as instructed and rang it while I filled out the form. “The pilgrim has arrived, it seems. ” “WOAH! ” I audibly shouted, the woman in front of me appearing out of thin air. “Next time you wanna pull a Houdini on me, maybe cough lightly? ” I added after catching my breath, her disarming smile helping to settle me. “My apologies, Mr. Jónsson, I am The Concierge of this fine establishment and I wanted to greet you in person to go over your tasks today. ” She was in her 60s, a shaven black head and a trim frame adorned by a blue suit with not a single button out of place. I daresay she commanded the room with a single look. She certainly had me on edge when she spoke, my eyes following her arm as it outstretched to the long hallway. “Follow, if you please. ” She smiled and I obliged, trailing behind her as my tool belt jangled, not daring to imitate her in the slightest. “Our hotel is very old and as such, has multiple aspects that need to be fixed, inspected or replaced. ”Right, boss said it wasnt a one day job, that Id be here a while, ” I added, now suddenly wanting to show I was motivated. I have no idea why, the pay was okay but the job wasnt special…”Oh, and youre welcome to call me Ros, everybody does. ” Before she can open her mouth to reply, I interject with “Yeah, like the band. ” She chuckles before regaining her composure quickly and gazing ahead. “An astute observation by your employer. You will have a set of tasks per shift, but it will take you some time. Multiple issues reside within multiple floors of which this hotel has many. ” We reached the end of the hall and one elevator stood on either wall, with one on the far wall as well, signifying the end of the hallway. The left was a rickety mess, dust covering the doorways and a “DO NOT USE” sign affixed to the buttons. The one to the right was a gorgeous brown elevator, a metallic gate covering the front and beautiful gold lettering adorning either side, H & I beaming back at me. It was the centre elevator, however, that caught my eye the most. The doors stretched from wall to wall, huge metallic wings that were covered in engravings and markings beyond anything I can understand. They expect me to go into one of these and I cant lie, Im banking on the right one. “Your tasks for today are as follows, Ros. ” She hands me a small sheet with a basic outline of the floors, my eyes widen as I spy something “off”, but I barely have time to linger on them before she begins talking and my mind snaps into work mode. She walks to the far end elevator and extends a keycard to a panel on its right, the doors lighting up and groaning open agonisingly slowly as she nonchalantly reads off my duties for the day: “Your shift runs until 4am, this elevator is a multipurpose service elevator that houses basic facilities, built in wi-fi and a medical kit should you fall ill. Please do not utilise the other elevators you see during your shift, these are for our guests. Task 1: Floor 5 is having an issue with the air conditioning, some have been claiming it makes them feel woozy, youll find the main heater in the community centre straight ahead from the elevator, assuming it's still the source. If it isnt, please contact me on the panel in the elevator. Task 2: Some of the residents in the West Wing of Floor 7 have complained of a constant damp and foul odour coming from above, use your trade skills and uhh…clear natural charm to politely abolish the problem with whatever residents are causing it, if you so wish. Do be wary, though. Our residents on that floor have…behavioural issues. Lastly, Task 3: Floor 9 has been experiencing constant noises coming from our VIPs room night and day, Im unsure how long its been going on for at this point but its long enough that residents have been checking out en masse and I wish to alleviate such a disturbance for them. Please take these earplugs and check in with me before and after this task is completed. ” The doors open with a final clunk as she holds out her hand and extends the earplugs. Im in awe of how efficient this woman is, like a fucking metronome in perfect synchronicity with the world around her. I take them as she pulls out her pocket watch to observe the time. “Well, youre officially on the clock and I have another appointment, so this is where we part. No complex rules, I trust you to do your job well and contact me if there are concerns. ” She moves her arm, still outstretched, to the now huge room-like elevator as I step inside. “This elevator is remotely controlled and will only visit the floors I have assigned you. Please relax and enjoy your stay here at The Hotel Inertia. ” I swallow, my throat dry, and clutch the map in one tightly balled up hand, her teeth bared in a wide grin as the doors begin to close. Out of view, I hear one of the elevators opening up and a furious voice erupting from the shaft as it turns to muffled sounds when the doors close. So its still Day 1 and my first stop is Floor 5, well call it “The Centre” for now. The job is to fix the heater and move on. Seems simple enough, right? If only. “Fuckin glad Im not them, thats for sure…” I mutter, fumbling with my phone and loading up my personal playlist. Always a surefire for keeping me calm when anxiety loomed or situations began to fall out of my control. This room was sizeable, especially for an elevator. A beanbag lay in the corner with a box containing a first aid kit and a small desk opposite, a large panel with dozens of floors and a small video terminal placed above it, the luminous “Hotel Inertia” sign above that. I sighed and hit play, letting the music calm me down as I felt the floor beneath me rumble and the room bathed in a soft blue light. I stared at the map again and this time allowed myself to take in what the fuck I was seeing. It was more complex than words can accurately describe, but Ill take a crack at it. Every floor was obviously numbered with a tenancy population/room count next to it, but there were then these small runes affixed beneath the floor numbers that served no purpose, information I couldnt make heads or tails of and the floor plans…well, they were faded out as if incomplete. The ground floor made perfect sense, all the dimensions were roughly to scale and the size of the building from the outside view matched the documents…but the 5th floor I was going to was partially filled in and that was what made my anxiety flare up. Not because I thought I was being put through some god awful Mr. Beast prank for YouTube clicks, but because the look in The Concierges eyes assured me I wasnt. I took another deep breath and decided to text my best friend, Soma. She was the better half of me in the most honest sense. No matter what day I was having, she would have a great story, a meme or a song ready to lift my spirits. Hell, it was because of her that this playlist exists. “Just got onto site, shits getting weird, think this Concierge is trying to LARP as a cast member of The Shining…” I texted, knowing I would most likely not get a reply yet, but the action itself was comforting. No sooner had I finished, the doors opened on a small room housing a single spiral staircase encased in a beautiful black mesh, runes running around every handrail and the stairs themselves extending up to a single balcony some 50ft above me. “What the…did I break the hotel? ” I lean out tentatively and stare dumbfounded at the room, expecting a hollow wall or some kind of trick to appear. But after a moment, I shrugged and ascended up the stairs, wondering what the hell I was going to find on the other end, feeling a thick chill rising the higher I went up. Upon reaching the top, thighs shaking and sweating like it was the goddamn rainy season, I placed my hand on the doorknob and pushed, giving way to a room that would be the first of many to defy all logic and reason. I was staring out into a large circular community centre, grim as a funeral home and a damn sight cold as one. To the right was a worn out stage and torn curtains. Strewn around the room was a bunch of hammocks, couches and sleeping bags. A dozen or so people huddled down in the centre for warmth with a ton of sleeping bags, each window fogged over and some soft music playing through a speaker in the corner. The moment I stepped through and exhaled, my breath visible in front of me, they turned in unison to stare. The group had unusual carpets and garments, tapestries hung up with beautiful patterns, upon closer inspection, they were all no older than 30, definitely didnt look like they were from any country I recognised. Travellers, id have guessed. “Uh…hey, guys. Here to fix the heater, but it seems youre all dealing with a damn ice age here…” My own wit is failing me in the face of what Im seeing. How the hell is a circular community centre in a hotel? It made no sense… “You…we have waited ages! ” A thick accent cuts through the air, I cant place it but Id have guessed European. Hes covered up in several layers of clothes, an eyebrow less face staring back at me as he walks towards me, the rest of his group huddling up and murmuring as they talk amongst themselves. “I got hired recently, sorry, ” I sheepishly replied; customer service was never my strong suit. “How recently? We are so cramped in our own skin being wrapped up like this! ” he replied, the anger in his words permeating through the visible air around us as I looked around the room for the heater, spying it at the top of the farthest section of the wall, next to a solitary pair of swinging double doors. “Fifteen minutes ago, maybe sixteen, I lost count, ” I replied dryly, my bones aching from the cold as he glared at me, “Can I get to work now? I dont wanna end up the next Jack Frost. ” He stared for a moment and muttered “Jack Frost? ” back at me, must not have had the joy and mundane terror of Christmas movies wherever he was from. He nodded and left me to it, walking back to his group of people as I passed them, avoiding eye contact as best I could. These people were NOT happy, I had no idea how long theyd been waiting but it was long enough that theyd had to form a goddamn encampment in their main meeting room. Using a nearby ladder, I began my work on the heater. I wont bore you with the mechanical details, but some elements needed tweaking and replacing: a relatively simple job if, like me, you knew what you were doing. As I was finishing up, I heard a few of them talking and my ears perked up. “I was in such a hurry I had to leave my provisions behind…I cannot remember the last time I ate, Georgia…” grumbled one woman to her friend, shivering the whole time, the same thick accent coming through. “I know, I know. We couldnt even enact the lunchtime initiative…such a shame. But, we can hold out a bit longer, all will be fine, Katya! We are built for this! ” She pats her friends shoulder as I close the panel and push the reset button, scaling down the ladder. I felt bad for these people, must have been hell being stuck up here with this weather for god knows how long. “I dont know what the hell a lunchtime initiative is, but if you need something to eat, you can have mine I guess, ” I said, kneeling down to get some sandwiches from the tool bag. Their faces lit up as the rest of their group shuffled over, excitedly murmuring. My phone buzzed and I saw Soma had replied, the first message was only partially downloaded, but the second made my eyes widen and my muscles tense up, the feeling of malice in the atmosphere. “Put your headphones in, hit play and do not react. Run at the first chance you get. ” I did as she said, the moment I hit play, the buzz of the heater kicked in and a low droning sound rang out from the speaker. One by one the folks began to disrobe from their parkas and outstretch their arms, basking in the heat like moths to a flame. It was rising far too quickly and I could feel the sweat running down my back, but I didnt move a muscle. The man Id spoken to was at the back, devoid of eyebrows like some psychopath and smiling in ecstasy as he began pulling at his fucking skin. First, it was a small scratch which turned into a frenzied tearing, ripping chunks of his flesh away at a time. But there was no pink skin, muscle or viscera beneath. No, instead something far more sinister shone through, literally. A green and brown carapace. The light bouncing off of it like looking at a stag beetle under direct sunlight, the form moulting in front of me and rising as each member of this group did the same. Some had pincers, others had dozens of legs, all had these vaguely humanoid stances with some flesh left on the face, thick bulging eyes beaming down at me. Even though my music was blaring, I could hear one speak to me, mandibles clicking away as the pincers at the end of its forearms dripped. “We were unable to birth young to feast on, what with the weather so cold…I had no idea how wed survive another season! Those humans would have stormed us all had you not intervened…I must say, the disguise is remarkable, The Concierge knows how to pick them! But please do feel free to let it go, were ever so hungry and that skin looks positively delightful…” One word ran through my head and regrettably out of my mouth before my nerves could stop it, right as the drums kicked in. How appropriate. An elongated “NOPE” rang out as I threw my lunch at the heater, clogging the vents and a thick stuttering sound joining the buzzing to make what some music fans may call a rather relaxing noise band. The woman nearest to me extended her proboscis and, before I had a chance to whip around, punctured my neck like a fine needle. I felt my knees buckle and my vision blur, but I refused to go down. Call it stupidity, fight or flight…hell you can call it plus ultra if you want, but I like to think of it as desperation mode. That moment in a humans life when they go beyond their limits, like a mother lifting a car to save her trapped baby. I leaned down to stop it going in further as I felt her hunger run through my veins, pulling a hammer from the tool bag and smashing it across the proboscis until I hear a sickening crunch. Holding it defensively, I began to swing wildly as I rushed through the horde of monstrosities, knocking it into anyone who dared to stand in my way. “STOP! HAMMER TIME, BITCH! ” I called out, nerves and adrenaline fuelling my actions as I rushed for the door I came through, shouting as a rumbling emanating from the double doors by the heater now spurning me on, like a nightmare where you know something is right behind you, but you dare not look. The last thing in my way was Captain Browless, a bunch of thick singular hairs strewn across a stick insect body as he bore down on me, sharp arms ready to cut me. “You will be the death of us, tinkerer. You were not supposed to fight back, ” it hissed, again, no idea how I heard it but it was as if it seeped into my very thoughts. I side stepped and smashed it in the leg, the force crunching the leg and Inspector I. Browse falling to the ground in a clump as I kept on running, shouting back “Id call myself a fixer, but right now, Ill settle for exterminator. ” before slamming the door behind me, sliding down the spiral stairs and rushing back to the elevator, the sound of thundering footsteps behind me as I frantically hit close and leaned against the door, the music finishing and all the bravado from my body leaving in a single instant. The hole in my neck began to pulsate and with every thump, my vision grew worse, I felt my muscles beginning to lock up and fear gripped me absolutely. I just acted on instinct, treated it like a video game because the room itself made no sense, but what was I thinking? My last words were the lines a b-list movie celebrity might say for a terribly funded kickstarter that what I wanted my legacy to be? My chest tightened and I mustered the strength to lift up my phone and reply to Soma before my energy failed me, unable to even reach the first aid kit. I noticed the first message had downloaded and read that first, straining my sight to see what shed sent. It was a screen-grab of an email from an unknown sender to Somas inbox, with the subject: “You can still save Ros. ” Inside was a list of instructions and information to aid Soma in how to help me, a cheat sheet of what was to come, but she had blurred it all out prior to sending it. The caption beneath being the last thing I saw before passing out as the hotel rang out to signify i'd reached Floor 7: “Dont follow the sounds. ”. You have arrived at the next floor...

Blind eyes opened free download windows 7. Blind eyes opened free download windows 10. Good Morning Canuck Nation, I'm pleased to have finally put together something outside of game recaps, that is wholly different than anything I've ever written about, hockey stats, and lots of 'em! Since I began writing recaps of the Comets, I've always wanted to provide more depth to my recaps but didn't know how to do so. Over the summer, I did a whole lot of reading during my time at work (Two-time employee of the month, back-to-back) about hockey stats from CORSI, to Fenwick, PDO, expected goals, GF% etc. Started with this post, then moved on to reading the various stat descriptions over at and figuring stuff out from there! Eventually, I realized the grand-scope of what could be manually-tracked, might be a bit much for my plate. So I cherry-picked the most commonly known stats that I knew I could comfortably track in between writing up the gameday recaps I do, here, and those I provide for. Lo-and-behold, I've got 22 games worth of shot-attempt data ready to roll-out in everyone's favorite, accessible stats! Corsi and Fenwick! Yay! THE REPORT CARDS Here, I'll actually grade players based on a combination of their contributions to four areas of the game, offense, defense, powerplay, and penalty-killing. Because I'm not an expert in stats, I'll be punching up my eye-test analysis with some of my interesting findings and try to find a middle ground between the two. I think for my year-end reviews of players, I didn't clarify well-enough. The grading system relates to my interpretation of how the player has performed amongst the Comets team, not amongst the league itself. So keep that in mind when you see someone like Mitch Eliot get a B. It's a combination of stats, eye-test, and relative expectations of how he's performed as a Utica Comet against other teams in the division. You can find the full list of report cards on my blogsite here. I cut out the following players to fit under the character limit, you can find their report cards on my site. Gaudette, Fantenberg, LeBlanc, Graovac, Sorenson, Bancks, Blujus, Camper, Hamilton, and Sautner Reid Boucher GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD pts/gp SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% Satt Thru% SH CF% PK Supp% 17 82 15 6 3 24 +3 1. 41 18% 231 243 48. 7% 182 184 49. 7% 121 68% 18. 7% 95% Offense: I mean, what needs to be said, the guy is a Quad-A goalscorer at the AHL level. 68% of all shot-attempts wind up hitting the net. The guy is a hound on the pucks and takes shots from impossible angles at will. Defense: his negative shot-attempt differential comes from how far up Boucher plays with the puck. Most shot-attempts against at even-strength come from him playing aggressively up ice while being somewhat disengaged from the defensive side of the game. That's not to say he is sitting at the center-dot doing nothing, but it's clear as day that Boucher prefers to defend around the Comets blue line. Boucher has an underrated takeaway game, and he pounces on breakaway opportunities generated by his ability to strip the puck off his opponents. He's more adept at that side of defending than the, clog up center-ice and try to block shooting lanes" style of defending in his own zone. Powerplay: A third of Boucher's points came from the powerplay, so to say he's pretty useful on that first unit. Penalty-Kill: as previously discussed, Boucher's ability to strip the puck off his opponents is second to none. Boucher has been a mainstay on Cull's penalty-kill, and for a good reason. Of all the PK mainstays, Boucher is tied with Lukas Jasek and Wacey Hamilton for short-handed goals and leads all penalty-killing forwards with 17 shot-attempts while short-handed. While his defensive game lacks finesse, his offensive upside and niche role as an aggressive, scoring penalty-killer makes up for it. Speed and ability to create space will likely prevent him from making it in the NHL, but Canucks fans can be happy that he's scoring for the Comets and not against them. Grade: A- Nikolay Goldobin GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% Satt Thru% 18 32 8 7 5 20 0 25% 261 295 46. 9% 202 229 46. 9% 75 43% Offense: Goldy's offense at the AHL level has been quite fun to watch, goals come a lot easier to him at this level when he doesn't have to work as hard to make space for himself or wait for his linemates to find space for themselves. Flashy, creative, and fun to watch, Goldobin has been way more physically engaged while playing with the Comets, and that drive to battle harder in the offensive zone has resulted in more scoring chances for than against for the Comets. The area of concern would be that sky-high shooting percentage of his. There's no way scoring on every fourth shot is sustainable. Defense: In contrast to the above, however, Goldy's defensive game has looked pretty weak at the AHL level. At even-strength, Goldobin has been on the ice for just as many goals-for as he was for goals-against. The majority of Goldobin's success has come from his use on the powerplay. It is worth noting that this season, Goldobin has only ridden shotgun alongside two natural centers in four of his 18 games played. As much fun as the Euro-Line was, defensively, they were putrid, alongside Lukas Jasek, at even-strength Goldy posted a measly 41. 4% CF. Goldy didn't post too good of CF% or FF% stats with the Comets this season. His other centers he played with this season included Wacey Hamilton, whom he posted a 47. 6% CF. Tyler Graovac, for two games at 51. 2% CF. And lastly, a two-game stint alongside Carter Camper, for his season-high CF of 64. 3. Arguably his 5-on-5 numbers could improve had he been playing with a bonafide, natural center at the AHL level. But injuries and lack of depth shoehorned players like Jasek, Hamilton, and Graovac into roles as Goldy's centerman that they weren't capable of filling. Powerplay: See above re powerplay stats inflating his point totals Penalty Killing: Goldy had one shift on the PK, and in that time, he was on the ice for two shot-attempts for the Comets and held his opponents to just five goals-against. I probably seem like I'm going hard on Goldy, but in truth, he (like most of the Comets this season) weren't being dealt a fair hand, with the weak crop of centers that the Canuck's org prepared for this season. Goldy has done admirably to keep his head above water, and even to earn himself a call-up. Who knows if there was a point, though, as it appears that Travis Green is over the Goldy experiment. Grade: A- Sven Baertschi GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% Satt Thru% 10 24 4 8 2 14 +8 17% 115 148 43. 7% 93 119 43. 9% 38 63% Offense: Now I know what you're thinking, how could Sven be rocking a +8 for 5-on-5 on-ice goal differential, but have a rock-bottom 43. 7% CORSI-FOR. Well, it's pretty simple, in two of the Comets weaker efforts this season, Sven and his line got matched hard and ended up hemorrhaging shot-attempts-against. The two games in question were the Comets 8-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers, and their 2-1 shootout win over Hershey. In the 8-2 win over the Checkers, the Comets managed to give up 63 shot-attempts at even-strength. Again, not a typo, the Comets won EIGHT-TO-TWO, despite giving up shot-attempts at even-strength by a two-to-one margin. The Hershey Bears shootout win was no better, as the Comets again gave up shot-attempts at a two-to-one clip. Sven's offensive numbers look putrid because of these two games, where he was line-matched hard by the competition, as Sven went on to have an even-strength shot-attempt differential of -33 Sven's numbers probably look infinitely better if those games weren't so hard on him and his linemates, but alas, here we are. The Swiss Army Man has been money on the powerplay and at even-strength for the Comets. Defense: The only critical aspect of Baertschi's defensive game, is that he shy's away from hits and physical contact along the boards. I mean, I get it, I think we all do. If he can find the offensive success he's found away from putting his head in vulnerable positions along board-battles, then yah, I can see why he'd avoid it. You could see his hesitation and fear when he played with the Canucks on his lone trip, and it's what Travis Green spoke of after training camp. I think the latest concussion has changed the way Baertschi approaches offense, and unfortunately, I don't believe the new approach can cut it at the NHL level. Powerplay/Penalty-Kill: Baertschi was on the PK once. He managed one shot-attempt for, and one shot-attempt-against. His 100% penalty kill suppression is tied for first on the team — truly remarkable PK work. Grade: A- Kole Lind GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% Satt Thru% 22 35 4 9 3 16 -2 11% 262 281 48. 3% 189 221 46. 1% 68 51% Lol, just checked on Reddit, and I'm halfway to the character limit! UH OH! Offense: A quarter way through his sophomore season, and we're getting a completely different Kole Lind than we saw last year. Like, Goldy, Lind has struggled at even-strength but thrived on the powerplay. There's definitely an increased swagger to his game that shines mostly in his playmaking. His vision and passing game have taken a noticeable step forward. Needs to work on his aim, though, as 25% of his shots miss the net. Defense: Defensive game is still a huge work in progress. Jumping up and creating plays is one thing, but getting back to his end and negating shooting lanes, disrupting passes, etc. is something that hasn't been his strong point this season. Still early on, and given the massive strides he took since last season, I'm willing to give that side of his game some time. Powerplay: Lind has been dynamite on the Comets first unit powerplay. He is their de facto faceoff guy for the opening draw, and his tenacity on the puck in the offensive zone has resulted in him earning points on just under 1/3rd of the Comets total powerplay goals this season. Not bad for the sophomore. Penalty-Kill: cough cough* Decent first quarter for the Shaunovan sophomore, still need to see either a better defensive effort at even-strength or an insane run of offensive production in all-situations, before I bump him up to the A-category. Grade: B+ Zack MacEwen GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% Satt Thru% 13 34 3 4 1 8 +6 9% 160 160 50% 123 119 50. 8% 56 61% Offense: All things considered, Zack's first 13 games with the Comets weren't exactly encouraging from an offensive standpoint. Despite being on the first powerplay unit as the net-front guy, being on the 1st/2nd lines at even-strength, PK time, all these premiere roles where he struggled hard to produce. I think I even wrote in one of my recaps that I found it surprising that he was called-up given how he has essentially earned all of his points in a three-game stretch, and that was it. At even-strength, I don't know if he ever really gelled with his most frequent linemate, Justin Bailey, as both guys tend to try and split the D on their own to try and generate offense. Two guys trying to do everything on their own is never a good thing, and Zack's production suffered from having to steer away from that kind of gameplay that got him so much success last season. Plus, he might be dealing with a nagging wrist issue, so there might be more to the "why is Zack MacEwen not shooting" thing. Defense: Defensively is where Zack has shined the most this season. Last year the girthy guy pretty much relied just on big. This season saw a much more concerted effort while defending in his end at even-strength that didn't just rely on wading towards opponents holding his stick in front of them. He still tends to screen his own goalie, but at 6'4" 205 lbs, that's almost impossible to avoid. Zacks 5-on-5 goal-differential of +6 is third-highest amongst Comets forwards. Just behind Lukas Jasek and Sven Baertschi. A fantastic turnaround from Zack, considering last season, he ended the year with an abysmal -11 5-on-5 goal-differential. Powerplay/Penalty-Kill: As earlier described, Zacks offensive production had not been great. As a penalty-killer, he was on the ice for three powerplay goals-against due to his tendency to screen his tendy. Overall, a dramatic improvement to the weakest face of his game last season means he holds steady in the B-range. He got his first NHL goal the other night, so that makes it a B. Should he be returned to the Comets with all the bodies returning off IR, I hope he can use that confidence gained at the NHL level to get his offensive game to return to form. Grade: B+ Francis Perron GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% Satt Thru% 20 33 4 6 5 15 +3 12% 214 230 48. 2% 165 190 46. 5% 61 54% Offense: In hindsight, I'm still kind of blown away that the Sharks gave away their second-highest scorer on the Barracuda for a contract dump in Tom Pyatt and a 6th round draft pick. And shiiiiiiiiet, it hasn't worked out for the Barracuda at all. The San Jose spookyfish sit dead last in the AHL with an astonishingly bad, 15 points out of 19 games played. Perron's been a sneaky good contributor for the Comets. Out of the 21 goals scored with Perron on the ice. Perron earned points on 71% of them. A pretty remarkable tally given that 1/3rd of those goals scored came at even-strength. Perron has fantastic work-ethic on the ice, and occasionally eclipses "2018-19 Zack MacEwen" when it comes to footspeed. Defense: He does fall into the Goldobin category of looking lost in the defensive end, but he is relentless in his attempts to deny his opponents from getting off shot-attempts. He is continuously trying to create chances out of thin air from his puck-retrieval game — not a bad pickup by the org for essentially nothing. Powerplay/Penalty Kill: With MacEwen up with the Canucks, and Wacey Hamilton on IR, Perron has found himself as a regular on the Comets penalty kill, and his previously mentioned tenacity on the puck has held opponents to zero powerplay goals with him on the ice. Consistency has been Perron's issue all season, as he can go from being the most noticeable guy on the ice one game to being completely invisible the next. Would like to see more consistency in his offensive output and for him to stand out a bit more on a night-to-night basis. Grade: B- Justin Bailey GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% Satt Thru% 22 53 6 4 3 13 0 11% 239 252 48. 7% 191 194 49. 6% 107 50% Offense: Easily one of the Comets' most frustrating forwards to watch on a nightly basis. Big body with NHL caliber speed who just cannot for the life of him put himself in a position to score with his skating. Think I'm hyperbolic? Bailey currently sits second on the team for shots on goal; he also leads the team on shots that missed the net, with 31 total sent wide of the net. Watching Bailey strip the puck off an opponent in the defensive-zone to then wheel himself past the goal line for a shot off the shoulder-blade of the goaltender is the equivalent of the "Master Wayne/Pushups" meme. Its as if he cannot help but skate himself into low% scoring areas. It's the weirdest thing, and its the most frustrating thing to watch with such frequency. Defense: I can't say that Bailey is a stellar defender. I think he's got great speed for backchecking, but he sits fourth on the team for unblocked shot-attempts against at even-strength. Considering how fast he can wheel and position himself to deny those attempts, it's pretty shocking how high up that list he is. Powerplay: Since MacEwen's call-up to the Canucks, Bailey has taken on the role of net-front big-boi, and has done admirably in that role. He doesn't block his peeper-unit's shooting lanes, and he knows when to slide out for redirect attempts. MacEwen was struggling in that role earlier this season, and Bailey's been a decent side-grade for them there. Penalty Kill: Bailey is up there with Boucher in terms of being the most offensively threatening member of the Comets penalty-killing groups. He's tied with Lukas Jasek for second amongst forwards for short-handed scoring chances with 13 total. Again, that lightning speed comes into play here. A majority of Bailey's short-handed rushes have resulted in much-needed line-changes, or offensive-zone draws. Amongst the mainstay Penalty-Killers, Bailey leads with an impressive 19. 4% short-handed CORSI-FOR. Although frustrating, the failures of his end-to-end blitzes usually result in sustained pressure for the Comets afterward. And because he's holding his own at 5-on-5, I can't critique him too hard. That feeling has not changed, and it has grown this season alongside Arseneau's ability to control the pace of play. Arseneau embodies the archetype of a fourth-line "goon. However, his skill set and contributions to this club have proved that he is so much more than that. I'm sure most people gloss over anything I write about Big Vinny's efforts night-in and night-out. But they shouldn't! The guy is out there defending the Canucks rookies from goonery; he hits like a mac-truck, he has an underrated shot, decent playmaking, forechecking, the works. He is the embodiment of what this management group wants from their fourth-line guys whom they signed to be "role-models" for the kids in terms of work ethic. Arseneau isn't third on the team for CORSI-FOR because he takes shifts off. The guy hustles his ass off, and his effort level has rubbed off on his linemates, the likes of Seamus Malone, Jonah Gadjovich, and Dyson Stevenson, who've all seen tremendous improvements this season since playing on a line with the Big Frenchman. Apologies, maybe its all the "undrafted ECHL'er to Canuck-legend, Alex Burrows" talk that's got me feeling sentimental towards guys like Arseneau who've worked their butts off to get where they are. Defense/Powerplay/PK: see above. Guy was given 2nd unit powerplay time and put on a line with Francis Perron, several times after I had called for it in my Harvests. Trent Cull, if you're reading this, get Arseneau in the Boucher spot for the second unit. He can do it. The bad: Jasek's offensive production has cratered, and he has the worst CORSI differential on the team at -80. Jasek is controlling shot-attempts worse than any other Comet forward currently in the lineup. The good: Despite giving up the most amount of shot-attempts at even-strength, Jasek is third on the team (2nd amongst forwards) for 5-on-5 On-Ice Goal Differential, with a +7 differential. The teams save percentage at even-strength is at its highest with Jasek on the ice, at 98. 2. nsbp; Overall, Jasek's move to center has been nothing short of a disaster. The team has sacrificed Jasek's playmaking and offensive capability as a winger in exchange for a mildly adequate defensive center. Czech players are renowned for their two-way games, but this move is absolutely baffling. The kid has done like four interviews with various media talking about how learning English is fucking hard. Why add a role-change to his plate? Was finding non-veteran AHL centers to play on AHL deals that difficult for the management team? Isn't that literally Ryan Johnson's job, to fill the roster with AHL depth in the event of injuries? As someone who was a big fan of Jasek's two-way game last season, seeing him struggle in this nonsense move to center to make up for management shortcomings is just a piss-off. In my lone, embarrassing radio hit with TSN 1040, I elected to speak about Jasek being one of the team's most underrated prospects in the system. And here they are just throwing his development in the trash. His grade won't be reflective of the situation he's been forced into. He changed it up by throwing both OJ48 and Brogan Rafferty out on the powerplay. It was bold, it was brash, and it was no good. Eventually, OJ got injured, and Rafferty found himself as the Comets powerplay QB. Once Rafferty transitioned to the Peeper QB, the team saw a drastic change to his playstyle in which Raff stepped up his offensive game in a significant way. He currently leads all Comets defensemen, and it's legit, not even remotely close. His 16 points are double the second-leading defenseman, Guillaume Brisebois. Incredibly, Rafferty is only shooting at a 5% clip, so in theory, his production could ramp up as he gets more comfortable with his shot from the blue line. Defense: The only thing holding back Brogan's defensive game is his vision. And not like, playmaking vision, but literally his vision. There have been many occasions this season where Rafferty has thrown the puck directly onto an opponents stick, and not because of speed, but because the opponent was in his blind spot. He's got a great quote in the above article about his vision impairment, requiring him to think more on the ice instead of take things for granted. His defensive game besides these giveaways has been pretty spectacular. He leads all Comets defenseman in 5-on-5 goal differential with +9. Powerplay: See above, the guy has been dynamite on the powerplay. Since taking over as the QB, at the start of November, Rafferty has been on the ice for 50% of the Comets powerplay goals. Penalty Kill: See above regarding the vision thing, Rafferty has seen some time recently on the penalty kill due to the absence of Jalen Chatfield. For a guy with visual impairment in one eye, he hasn't been a liability on the PK, and in his short time as a penalty-killer, has managed a 29. I'm super hyped for this guy's potential as a mid to late-season call-up. His puck handling, smooth skating, and puck control are quite impressive for a player making his pro-hockey debut. An impressive stat given his shooting percentage is at a paltry 3. Brisebois is Cull's go-to guy and see's a crap-ton of minutes, evident by his high event presence. His shot this season has left a lot to be desired. 25% of his shots have missed the net, 30% are blocked or deflected wide. With the rest of his shots being easy saves by the goaltender. He keeps shooting the puck into goaltenders chest protectors. It's insane. It's gotten so bad that Brisebois has seen practically no powerplay time. Mitch Eliot has supplanted him on the second unit. Defense: Brise is a huge minute chewer for the Comets, he has many giveaways and errant passes in his own zone, but he's otherwise a responsible puck mover who, for the most part, does well to defend in the Comets zone. He's been on the ice for the second-highest number of goals-against on the Comets. However, that's bound to happen given how much ice-time he's been getting. Powerplay: If Brise fixes his shot, he might find his way back onto the second powerplay unit, but right now, Mitch Eliot is a better puck mover and has displayed a much better shot from the point. Penalty Kill: Brise was up there with Olli Juolevi as Cull's go-to PK guys. Brise has a decent short-handed COSRI-FOR at 17. 6. He has, however, taken the most minor-penalties amongst defensemen. Brise is getting outshined offensively by the rookies on the squad and might be seeing himself slip down the depth charts. He's still a decent call-up option for the Canucks on the left-side. But for how long? Juolevi's offense this season has generally been quite lackluster, just 36% of his shot attempts found their way on net. At even-strength, only seven of his 26 shot-attempts made it to the net. Given what we know now about his hip problems, perhaps this has been what's holding his shot back from being as successful as it was last season. Last season, in 18 games played, Juolevi rattled off 34 shots on goal. This season he barely cracked a shot per-game. Defense/Penalty Kill: I've written about Juolevi's skating concerns ad nauseam. Frankly, there isn't much more I can elaborate on with his stats. Juolevi's ability to transition the puck through the neutral zone with crisp-passing led him to a pretty decent positive shot-attempt differential at even-strength. His ultra-low on-ice shooting% of 2. 94% could indicate that he was due for some puck luck to go his way eventually. Had he not been overplayed to the extent he was, OJ might have found his footing. Being used in premiere roles on the powerplay, penalty kill, while being the team's 1st pairing/match-up guy was a disaster waiting to happen. I don't know how, Ryan Johnson, a man who spent the last seven seasons in a "player development" role with the Canucks, could possibly think that a kid coming off a full knee reconstruction, should be given that kind of work-load. Grade: C+ Honestly, OJ's grade could likely be higher if his recovery had been managed better. Y'all must've forgot 'bout the manchild himself. JG's quietly posted a 55 CF% a 53. 7 FF% 0. 63 points-per-game, all while earning points on 71% of the goals scored while he was on the ice. Not bad for a guy whom most people wrote off the second he hit the ice last season. His skating has vastly improved, and his playmaking ability is pretty underrated for a guy expected to max out as a fourth-line grinder. His shooting% is pretty high, and his even-strength scoring doesn't quite lineup with his CF% but I think he's got the work ethic to avoid being a liability on the ice. Defense: JG's tenacity on the puck and improved skating has led to much fewer goals against through his first eight games of the year. Ironically, he's currently rocking a -4 even-strength goal differential, after getting caught on the ice for four of the Marlies eight goals against the Comets this past weekend. Still needs more games under his belt to rate fairly, but relative to last season, I think his first-quarter showing has seen a marked improvement as a whole to his game. Despite posting just one point in 16 games played, he's rocking the team lead in even-strength goal differential. Teves doesn't have a great shot, and he doesn't impress defensively. His best attribute is his ability to skate and to carry the puck from one end of the ice to the other. His zone-entires are quite good. He can't do much when he gains them, however. The most impressive offense I saw from him recently, was when he put himself offside trying to walk the blue line for a shot, only to then draw a tripping call on a Marlies forward who pushed him over. Teves currently sits with the third-highest even-strength on-ice shooting percentage, at 8. 8. As well as the sixth-best even-strength on-ice save percentage, at 96. 9. His low involvement percentage indicates what the eye test says, and that his game primarily revolves around moving the puck up ice and holding the blue line. What his linemates do to score, however, is usually independent of Teves play. Don't let that fool you, though, as Seamus Malone has had a sneaky good game for the Comets this season. After missing his entire summer offseason training due to arm injury, Malone was thrown into the ringer to start the season by being moved to center full-time. His low involvement rate and shooting percentage indicates that he's not much of a playmaker, but watching him play you can tell that his speed and puck control * does* lead to many shot-attempts for his linemates. Luck truly hasn't been on his side this season. Malone has the second-lowest on-ice shooting percentage of all Comets players at 2. 04. Malone posted three goals in six games last season and has displayed a decent shot at the AHL level; the bounces, unfortunately, have not gone his way. Perhaps the tide will turn playing alongside Sven Baertschi and Reid Boucher? So long as he maintains his speed in transition, then eventually the point-production will come. Defense: Malone isn't the biggest guy, but he doesn't shy away from puck battles in the defensive zone. Spends a bit too much time chasing the puck out of position, but otherwise, he's fine defensively. Powerplay/Penalty Kill: Malone hasn't seen much time on either special teams. He was put out on the PK briefly and was doing fine, unfortunately in his limited time on the PK, his opponents did score once, leading him to have a pretty low powerplay suppression percentage. Overall, I think Malone has taken great strides in his game to start this season and has looked his most impressive in his last three games. Since getting moved to the 1st line center position Malone has elevated his game quite considerably, and his impressive shot-attempt differential is evidence of his skill. Fingers crossed the bounces start going his way. After a pretty unimpressive pre-season showing, I was ready to write Stevenson off as just another one of those guys. He's since turned his game on its head, and been a quality addition to the Comets fourth-line this season. Stevenson has consistently been an aggressive forechecker, engaged on every shift, and finding a way to the net where he's generated shot-attempts for his line. Chalk it up to being the result of playing with Vincent Arseneau. His defensive game obviously isn't much more than bully guys off the puck, steal, and get it to the other end. But it works, and he's not actively hurting the Comets when he's on the ice. Certainly is nice to have a fourth-line who can consistently hem opponents into their own zone with sustained shot pressure. Offensively, Chatfield is a complete nonfactor. He misses the net just as many times as he hits it. He is eclipsed only by Wacey Hamilton for the team-worst on-ice goal differential, holding steady at -9 in all-situations, and -6 at even strength. Like Josh Teves before him, Chatfield has a spectacularly low contribution percentage, having only earned one point out of the 15 goals scored with him on the ice. He leads all Comets defensemen holding the team's 2nd worst even-strength shot-attempt differential at -46. His physical play, speed, and tenacity on the puck makes him an "intangibles" dream. Statistically speaking, Chatfield lags behind all when it comes to negating shot-attempts and creating shot-attempts for his team when he's on the ice. Cull has moved Chatfield around the pairings the most of any Comets defender, and I think that's because most guys can't make up for Chatfield's lack of offensive instincts or his defensive lapses. Only Josh Teves posted a positive CF% while paired alongside Chatfield, and it was only by the slimmest margin. Every other defender saw their CF% drop dramatically while paired with Chatfield. I'll stop because there's no point in going so hard on one guy for his shortcomings because, as I joked before, those intangibles are what make him a unique prospect in the pipeline. Likely, that grit factor and physical-play are why he's being called up over a guy like Rafferty. Literally, no other defensive prospect in the Canuck's pipeline plays a hard-nosed, physical game like Chatfield. His skate speed and effort on a shift-to-shift basis will always make him a reliable guy for Cull on the penalty kill, but at even-strength, it's just not working. He's like the Jake Virtanen of defense in that he has all the tools that makes for a successful hockey player but no toolbox to match. Yes, I'm aware he was called up to the Canucks. Like I said, the intangibles are hard to pass up. A guy who sacrifices the body and hustles on every shift? Of course, they'll give him a look. I'll never be the type who says a player on the Comets doesn't deserve a call-up. A player is worth exactly what a team thinks he is, and if he can hustle his way to the NHL for that sweet, juicy paycheque, then props to them for doing so! Grade: D Mitch Eliot GP SH G 1A 2A PTS 5v5oiGD SH% CF CA CF% FF FA FF% CSH% CSV% OIGF% 11 25 2 1 2 5 -1 5% 113 111 50. 4% 78 89 46. 65% 96. 4% 100% Offense: Despite his rotating slate of d-partners, Eliot has proven to be a considerable asset to the Comets third pairing. In his eleven game stint this season, Eliot has posted the third-best CF% amongst defensemen. He just needs to work on his aim. 21% of his shots this season have missed the net, 21% have been blocked, with the remaining 58% finding their way to the net. At a mere 2. 65% The Comets even-strength shooting percentage is fourth-lowest with Eliot on the ice. Going in his favor is his Goals-For% which sits tied for first on the squad, having earned a point on all five goals scored with him present on the ice. He's still green, but he's been impressive in his limited showings this season. Defense: Defensively, Eliot looks to be running into the same problem that the Comets rookies ran into last year. Dealing with the size and speed of opponents appears to be Eliot's biggest weakness. Many times this season, Eliot has engaged in battles along the boards or in the crease only to get easily pushed aside by his opponents. The kid has great hustle and effort to get to those battles and engage in them, but he isn't quite strong on his skates yet to be successful in that department. Eliot ranks 12th on the team for even-strength save-percentage with him present on the ice. Need Eliot to stand out a bit more in the defensive zone, and look a little stronger on his skates. Otherwise, his offensive contributions as a rookie have been terrific. Hopefully, he retains his role on the 2nd powerplay unit in spite of their lack of scoring with him at the helm. He's got a decent shot from the point; it just needs more ice-time to get refined. Grade: B- In Conclusion Thanks to anyone who actually read through the entire thing.
